To hell with them. Who the make the beast with two backs wants to go hang out with people you work with? I have a few friends outside of the ATC building that work in it, but I don't wanna talk about air traffic while I'm not at work. When I unplug after my shift is up, I'm done separating airplanes, talking about separating airplanes, etc. We can BS about it at work all day, but when it's over, it's over until the next day.
Do you really want to go to lunch with 15 "clicky" women and listen to them gab about work, people in the office, etc??
Best thing I learned when I started was don't talk about yourself, plans, or anything related to moveing up, laterally, etc. The less people know around you, the less than can sabatoge you....and believe me there are plenty of them that have made a career out of dicking with others because they think they should have gotten the assignment, promotion, etc. It's retarded how immature some of these "grown" people can be, but it is what it is.
I do love my job though. Come in, sit down, tell people what to do all day, then go home. I can't remember (since training was completed) the last time what I do felt like work.

If I could figure out a way to stop working to make other people rich I'd be out of there in a heartbeat.

Sounds like you work for a place owned by an investment group also.

Well, hell -- apparently I'm the only one who likes who I work with.
But when you spend as much time as we do together, you either force yourself to like them, or hate life. They are all pretty much family here, because well, we all spend more time together than with out family's.
We spend a good bit of our day looking out for each other too. You get past all the little picky shit when your main concern is making sure everyone goes home the same way as when they came in.
But, like families there is still times I want to whip someone's ass -- but we get over it pretty quick.

It's about the same for me.
I can go a long time without seeing most of my coworkers as we are all field-based and work from home or travel to visit customers. We interact mostly through email and phone.
When we do see each other it's when we are traveling so we see each other for breakfast, work, lunch, work, dinner, and maybe even more work after dinner. We get to know each other pretty well.

so after the layoffs we were called into a big meeting.
i had my headphones on and was busy working when my mgr came into our cube to call us into the meeting. they all got up and went to the meeting. i only found out about it after they got back and realized i hadn't gone.

That's the mgrs fault...not theirs.
You'd think he'd know who was supposed to be in the room after a round of layoffs.

I feel for you that have terrible coworkers.
I'm in outside sales for a small company and there are only four others in my position that cover the ttl U.S.
I get to work out of my home and only deal with my dog.
When I want human interaction, I pick up the phone, have customer appts, or schedule networking lunches.
I very much like my job, my boss, and all of the people I have to deal with. Guess I'm one of the lucky ones.
Ciao!

Im a interactive designer in a 60 person ad agency.
The creative director and art directors I report to are pretty cool for the most part.
The woman on the other side of my cube is 60, chews loudly, is super nosey, annoying, etc. I can't have a quiet discussion in my cube without her walking over and trying to get in the convo.
She bought an Iphone ( i don't know why she thinks she needs it) and had no idea how to use it. She ended up calling 5 different people over to her cube to help her figure it out.
There is a scary bull dyke on the other side of her who is around 50, she tries to be friends with the 25 year old gay guy.
There is a girl who lives with that guy, and talks like a super gay dude. Hardcore gay lisp and everything. I want to punch the peachfuzz of her face.
There WAS my dreamgirl. We talked a lot every day for 2.5 years. I never really tried to ask her out until she was single. She got laid off. Didn't want to even be friends with me outside of work. meh. I thought we had chemistry.
There are the super obese girls who eat a shit ton of diet baked goods all the time, and wonder why they are so fat. One of these fat girls said to me "I wish I was as skinny as you." AWKWARD! She happens to be obsessed with Twilight.

Sorry no.
I get asked that question alot.
The other question is "Do you need anyone to carry your bags next time you go to Italy."
My brother thinks I play too much golf for work too. Just signed up for another tourney next week.
You know, gotta get that company paid golf in before it gets too cold.

Do you get a lot of haters?
I do a fair amount of work in the recreational fishing industry and fish a lot with tackle reps and other industry folks. I love to fish. I started my own business to fish more. I set my own schedule so I can travel and be able to say yes to fun opportunities instead of no. I tell you, I have lost a lot of my old work-a-day friends to hating on me. Always with the "do you ever work?" type comments.
Don't hate the player, hate the game.

No. I don't get many haters, that I know of. Maybe just a tinge of envy. Most of my friends have better jobs than me anyway. My neighbors scratch their heads sometimes in wonder b/c when I work from the home office, I usually wear shorts, t-shirts and flip flops. I'm home when my kids return from school and am usually done before most people get home from their commutes. When they pull in to their drive ways, I'm usually out from playing with the kids and the dog.
Anyway, back on topic. Sorry for the diversion. Coworkers? Yeh, we get along just fine. Thank you.
