6 confirmed cases in my office

They are giving out masks and gloves. Haven't researched the mask, but from what I have heard, they don't do shit.

I grabbed a few since I need to refinish a piece of furniture and don't currently have a decent one.

Also, anyone found the vaccine yet?

been calling my doctor and they haven't gotten them yet.

I get a kick out of all these places selling the dust mask. You made the right choice for refinishing your furniture tho - can't be too careful with dust Wink

I have yet to see what the big deal is about the flu.

The biggest infected group with the most risk are 12-24yr olds.

Yeah, I read about that brand of mask.

It can help stop the spread of airborne particles, but on the box it clearly states "does not prevent the risk of infection of airborne illness"

morons walking around here in laytex gloves and masks.

It's make the beast with two backsing great.

You need to go to work in a full blown chem-suit. Just to illustrate how ridiculous everyone looks.  waytogo

Your doc will not the the H1N1 shots.  They are all going to hospitals and health departments.  They will be given to at risk populations first, and then the rest if there are any shots left.  Local health departments will distribute the shots to school nurses and other docs.

I know people in the health community.

I'll come across one.

Then I will get the rare nerve disease.

Get on netflix and rent the PBS video INFLUENZA 1918. Put it on in the conference room at work. People will quickly give up on the masks.

Masks should only be worn by people currently ill to help prevent the spread. If you are ill, you shouldn't be at work anyway...

Having seen what the H1N1 does first hand, I can tell you that you have every right to be concerned. The virus doesn't make everyone deathly ill, but those that do become deathly ill, well, I've seen 3 confirmed cases in the last 30 days in the critical care unit. All three  have required mechanical ventilation with one ultimately ending in demise, the other 2 aren't fairing much better but are improving albeit at a snail-like pace. I don't mean to scare anyone, the likelihood of it affecting anyone that badly are still relatively very low. My cause for concern has been in the population, usually healthy individuals, that it is affecting. The typical flu doesn't affect the healthy population with such severity. Aside from the N95 or N100 mask, the best protection you can take is to practice good and frequent hand washing, and avoid crowded places.

If there had been sick people coming into my office, I simply would not come in.
Mask are not going to protect you from getting sick as redxblack pointed out it was counter productive in 1918.

I would take a few days off and let it work its way out of the office.

I'm not familiar with the 1918 flu or the PBS film. Can someone explain how the mask was counterproductive?
