After reading that thread awhile ago, by co-incidence my local independent shop sold me a Hi-Flo and it seems to be a good filter.  It's stamped Thailand, same as the K&N's.

oh yeah - box said 'DUCATI' on it, to boot.

sorry - turning into a thread-jack

Not a thread jack at all, yet.

I can't seem to clear my mind of the image of the beautiful and enchanting Thai girl who assembled my HiFlo filter.  I don't want to take the filter out from under my pillow and install it on my bike.

Boobies.

There, now we have a thread jack.  [evil]

I use hi-flos too.

My local auto parts store sells Baldwin. I'll pick one up and dissect it.

DP, I've got a new HiFlo and a new OEM Ducati filter, the newer type with the crappy paint job.  I've been thinking of doing the same thing and posting some pictures, although I'm not the best picture poster.  I also wanted to compare the old OEM Ducati filters with the new ones but couldn't find an old one.   I have one on my Cagiva Elefant that's overdue for a change so I suppose I could dissect a used one.   I'll try to dissect the HiFlo and OEM filters sometime the next few days.  Don't mind sacrificing the $20 or so for the sake of "science" since I've sure learned a lot on this  board.

I haven't used an OEM filter in years, and wasn't aware they'd changed.

The paint on the hi-flo isn't the best, but in all reality, it's a filter and gets changed at least once a year anyway.

Paint on an oil filter is a non issue to me.

The aesthetics of filter paint is a non issue to me also, but there are other considerations.

There was a thread right here on your tech board (Edit, Oops, I was thinking you were a moderator on the Tech section but I see you aren't so you can be excused for not knowing about the oil filter paint thread :)) a month or so ago about the "new" appearance of the OEM Duc filters.  The crappy paint and smeary lettering doesn't have anything to do with the filtering ability, but there was a concern that maybe Ducati had changed vendors and the quality inside of the filter was as bad as the outside, or that they were counterfeit.  Thus my interest in dissecting both an old and new filter to see if the internals are still the same.

I cannot tell a lie...

I don't read every thread. ;D

I probably would steer clear of a thread about paint quality of a filter. ;)

If someone is willing to do a filter comparison with the Baldwin filter, i am not qualified, i will gladly buy the filter or two and send it too you as long as you report back to the group with pictures and findings.

I think DP is already going to do the Baldwin.  I'm going to do a stock OEM filter and a HiFlo.  I'll try to coordinate with  him so we take similar pictures and open the filters in similar ways.

I would also be happy to do the Baldwin too, but I'll have to look around to find one locally.  No need to send one to me, as I'm happy to donate a few $$ to the cause of science.

OK, thanks LB
DP....you need a Baldwin? I am happy to donate one to you.

FWIW I used em on HD diesels for years, no issues.  Used them on my personal vehicles as well.  I was not aware they made motorcycle filters.  Learned something new!

Your bud is a distributor, CASE LOTS!  Get your pals together, get case lot pricing!  Unless he extended that price as a favor already?  Baldwin is a long time quality filter manufacturer.  Without dissecting one I am confident it meets the OE specs, likely exceeds them.  And no I don't work there!   ;D

If my jobber has one I'll get it...no issues.

I just need to remember to do it.
