Just some shots of my recent experiences with drivers of the opposite sex.

I actually do have a scratch on the sticker that shows the maximum weight for my trailer hitch and a small one on my license plate.
The Camry had to be hauled out on a flat bed (air bag deployed, fluids all over the road, bumper, hood, and fenders toast).

All of this happened over the course of two weeks.

I know the kickstand being mounted to the aluminum engine cases isn't the greatest idea but did the owner of the 848 do to tear it off?

The woman driving the rented Dodge truck ran it over.  She was driving a rented truck because she totaled her car in an at fault accident two days earlier.

And there is no sexism in women being poor drivers. They just are. In the entire world.
If I ever get in power I will make women take much, much more serious driving tests.
I'm already collecting signatures....

And it is so refreshing and wonderful when you find a woman who can handle a motorized vehicle. Even a tractor.

I totally agree! All of my previous girlfriends and my current one (and her sister!) are horrible drivers.

And yeah, that's a sweet bike. I hope she's paying for all of the damage she caused on it.

So why is Insurance historically cheaper for women than men?

http://www.insurance.com/article.aspx/Are_Men_Better_Drivers_Than_Women/artid/259

Based upon information provided by consumers in the first half of 2008, Insurance.com reports that 68% of women have no traffic violations versus 64% of men.

Of those reporting violations, 30% of women have 1–3 traffic violations versus 33% of men, and 2% of women have 4+ traffic violations versus 3% of men.

The Official Numbers
According to TrafficSTATS, a risk analysis study by Carnegie Mellon for AAA in 2007, men have a 77% higher risk of dying in an accident compared to women. The study, using information from both the Fatality Analysis Reporting System (FARS) and the National Household Travel Survey estimated fatalities per 100 million trips to be 14.61 for men and 6.53 for women. The total number of fatalities between 1999 and 2005 were 175,094 for men and 82,371 women.

According to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), 14,512 male drivers died in 2007 compared to 5,865 female drivers, and even though there tend to be more male drivers on the road than females, the numbers strongly support the TrafficSTATS report.

i wonder...?

women are probably less aggressive drivers (assumption with not data to support)
women also seem to be less attentive drivers (a small amount of personal observation)
i would also speculate that aggressive drivers are more attentive drivers

however, despite being more attentive, aggressive drivers are probably more prone to (serious) accident, while less attentive drivers are more likely to have a lot of "Oops" accidents.

A widely accepted aphorism from my younger days was that women drivers, while not involved in as many accidents as men, caused more accidents. Anecdotal, not empirical, of course.

Men do seem to be more aggressive drivers. My theory is that differences in driving styles in dense traffic can lead to accidents (fast mixed with slow, etc).

Maybe the ins. rate difference is cause when men have an accident, it is a more serious one, due to speed, drinking, or recklessness.

And when women have an accident it is often in a parking lot, or garage, where it is poor judgement or distraction that causes the fender bender.

this would fit my experience in 20 years driving and knowing my wife (garage door frame) / mom (garage door frame) / sister (curb) / mother-in-law (side of house)  Smiley

Women drive fewer miles than men on average.

I'll agree that a lot of women aren't interested in cars or in being a good driver.  However, it is the seniors (both sexes) that frighten me!

laughingdp Maybe I'm not very trusting, but everyone frightens me on the road. The U.S. doesn't do a very good job of teaching people to really drive beyond reading road signs and using the standard accoutrement on a vehicle.
