St4s anyone?
«
on:

I'm looking at a 03 St4s, 5200 miles, bone stock. Price is so good it hurts not to pick it up, ride it for awhile, and sell it for some profit. Maybe I fall in love with it, and just keep it?
Anyway, it'll need a service (belts, valve check, maybe a rocker or 2?) but it's got new bridgstones, a new chain and sprocket, and comes with the matching side bags.
Anyone out there have one, like it, or hate it? I find myself always wanting to ride different places, but end up driving because of the monotony of riding a slab for an hour or more (most places I head the interstate is the preferred/only way). The ride to work is 20 mins....on a slab. Ride to go flying is an hour....on the slab, etc.. I have no problem riding the slab for an hour or more to get to the mountains, but riding 20-30 mins to work in the cold sucks, and I end up just driving. I'd think with something like this I'd be able to ride a lot more, but maybe I'm wrong?
This thing is supposed to eat the miles up right?

As far as riding in the cold, a heated vest is pretty effective.
I've used mine in low 30's conditions, and been pretty comfortable.
They're certainly more touring capable than Monsters.

My buddy had an ST3...I know it's a different motor. He'd climb on it and ride anywhere. His only complaint was poor range. His ST only got 35mpg. I don't believe that's the case with the 4s.

If you don't want it send me the info.
I'm looking for a sport tourer and this would fit the bill perfectly.

My husband is on his second '02 ST4s and I have an '01 ST4.
We loves our bikes. We have taken long trips on the STs, 2k+ week long tours, or use them to commute/run errands.
The hard cases are deceptively large. One will easily swallow a 12 pack (bottles) with no problem.
If your going to go on longer trips, upgrade to a Sarget seat. My stocker doesn't cut it when I'm in the saddle for more than 6 hrs. B has never complained about his Sargent.
Feel free to PM if you have any specific questions.

That is one of the lowest mgp I've heard on any of the ST bikes. Both my ST2 and my wife's hits 45-50 and a buddy's ST4s gets around 43-46 regularly.
To put it bluntly, if I only had to have one bike, the ST is the one I'd keep. For my kinda of riding, it is the absolute best, "do-all" bike that I've ever owned. I've done a SaddleSore 1000, ridden to Key West and back, and can rail and chase down some of the sportbike riders. I think the ergos are great, the handling is better than most people would ever give them credit for, and they are as comfortable as you may want to make them. Granted, they aren't the best-looking Ducati ever made, but they sure are better looking than the Multistrada.
The biggest drawback to the Desmoquatrro engine is the possibility of flaking chrome on the rockers. Some people get lucky, and others down. One other thing, the timing belts are some of the most expensive ones that Ducati offers. You'll spend around $150 for a set of belts. The ST4 (ST4s) and the '02 748 use the same heads that have the cams repositioned compared to the other Quattros. The heads were done this way for more clearance between the head and the front wheel for the ST. Because of this, it uses a different belt than the SBK 'quatrros. The one cool advantage to the ST4s is the better suspesnsion and the lighter wheels over the ST2 and ST4 models.
Did I mention that they are fun to ride?

My next road bike will be an ST.

Every single person I've talked to who owned an ST4/S has raved about the great handling, performance and relative comfort.
I'd love to have one myself.
You better buy that thing.

Now I've got to get my shit in order quick. Next week on wed I'll be flying out from ATL to IAH and riding the sucker back. I have no touring gear, a DP jacket with a zip in wind liner (jacket is perforated).
I plan on getting some heated gear eventually, but I really don't want to dick with trying to hook anything up like that on the road.
I need some decent touring sheoot now I guess

driving 1300 miles on way is bad enough, I don't wanna do it twice.
Besides, thats what touring bikes are for.....right?
