I attempted to register my bike and transfer title in California. Bike was out of state. It is missing the sticker below. Without it, I cant register it in California. The bike was originally purchased from a Ducati dealer in Oregon (I have the original sales receipt), and it looks like the original owner (the seller to me) decided the stickers werent cool looking so took ALL of them off, including this one. I dont have access to my paperwork right now, but I'm hoping the sticker may be in the pile. Ducati (unlike some other bike mfgs) doesnt provide replacements. Not sure how all this will work out...worst case is I have to get rid of the bike out of state someplace. Oh, the folks at DMV still charged me sales tax and registration fees! Even though I cant technically register it yet!!
Let me be clear though, this is all my own fault for not being properly prepared. Allow me to quote somebody or another:
"Let this be a warning to you all! (living in Califonia)"

That sticker is affixed to the plastic panel that mounts to the frame underneath the seat.
You have a PM.

You mean the one that was apparently replaced by a slick looking piece of aluminum sheet?
Feeling like one stupid a$$ motherphucker right now.

That sucks.
Can't you contact DNA, give them the VIN, and have them issue a letter stating the vehicle with that VIN complies with all EPA/CA emissions standards? I believe that's what you have to do to import a bike into the country.

Triple J: Though the fellow at a local Ducati dealer I shared my sob story with said that Ducati doesnt do that, I went ahead and contacted them anyway. Cant hurt, right?
By the way, my bike is a 2006 S2R 800. Got that? 2006 S2R 800. And the sticker is applied to a REMOVABLE plastic part. Got that? REMOVABLE part. It can be taken off, and put back on.

How many miles on the bike? 7500, and you don't have to worry about the emissions sticker. Just ride it a bunch without registering it and then take it in. Not legal, but they likely won't catch you:

Or talk to Duck Stew offline and see if he can help.

The bike has 16200 on the clock, and the inspector saw it, and he said it needs the sticker. I too thought I was clear at 7500!! I'll see what the CHP officer brings up tomorrow.

He got it wrong. I'm pretty sure that 7500 means you're clear. Double check though.
Don't be put off by the DMV. They often don't know what to do with motorcycles. Bring a printout from the DMV website or the applicable regulation with. You *should* be ok if I remember the DMV law re emissions properly.
FWIW, when I went to get my M1000SS registered after it had been salvage titled, I forgot to bring my smog stickers with and the new gauge was set at 6200 (it didn't include all the miles from the prior gauge). The inspector noted that I didn't have my smog sticker, but because he was baffled by a motorcycle, they gave me the title anyway.

Spidey: I thought I was free and clear at 7500 as well. I just double checked everything on the DMV website pertaining to the emissions reqiirement and it applies only to NEW vehicles, those defined by DMV to have less than 7500 miles. There is even a stand-alone brochure which simplifies everything required to register an out of state vehicle and there clearly stated is the "NEW vehicle with less than 7500 mile" issue. Per your suggestion, I have printed everything on their site pertaining to this issue.
Thanks for the input guys!!!!

the ironic thing is that every Ducati sold in the US since 1999 has been CA compliant. Another great example of the CARB vs DMV disconnect in CA..
