That swingarm is symmetrical. Its basically a tubular version of the old DSS Monster swingarm. And that's basically a dressed up version of the exhaust from a DSS monster.

The swingarm was only asymmetrical on the 2006 model, and that was, as mentioned, to accommodate the stock exhaust system. Zard just took advantage of the "swoop" and put a tip there.

2006 was also (as far as I know) the only year they used a dry clutch.

That being said, the asymmetrical swingarm is not necessarily any better than the later ones. Hell, I've worn through the paint on that "swoop" with my boot heel. If it were the later style arm, I wouldn't have to get it repainted/powder coated.

Then again, its an opportunity to mod. Who am I to pregnant dog?

That's what I was getting at. Why did some of them have the asymmetrical SA and some didn't...

The '06 Sport and Paul Smart were mono seat only, and had single rear shocks with the asymetrical swingarm.  I suppose the sweep in the swingarm might have provided better bracing against twisting for the shock being only on one side ( I know I wouldn't want to run only one shock on my symetrical swingarm-ed GT1000), and so they took advantage of it with the exhaust routing.  I also suspect it was a design exercise.  The 2007 Sport and Sport S are biposto bikes.  The rear cowl comes off.  Two rear shocks.  Symetrical swingarms.

I think the asymmetry is intriguing...

The later bi-posto models needed the different exhaust setup to accommodate passenger footpegs.

OMG...I never realized the bike I was looking to buy was mono only...i thought it was just a seat cowl...I guess just 1 more reason to look for another monster!

07 as well.

This is correct to an extent.  There was a number of '06 Mono Sport 1000s that were still left over, so the factory gave them a flash black/gold paint job, a numbered plaque on the top triple and called them limited.  Those were really the only '07s with the asymmetrical swing arm and dry clutch.

That's a slick polished header. There was a guy that would come to the shop in Nashville that would do the same thing to your stock headers. Looks good when done, because it gets a 'slight' brown tint in the polished metal.
