Other than the fact that DMF also could stand for Dumb Mother F@#$er I like it. We'll have to do a head count to see who's made it here from the DML.
...and the problem with that is? ;D

i would like to know that it will never be sold...just that.

werd.

but i don't think that setting up a legal entity or complex subscription/ownership thing is a good idea.  it'll add complexity and too much paperwork and crap (speaking from experience here).

a good handful of administrators like it is now is good.  responsibilities won't get spread too thin.  It'll maintain accountability.

but you gotta keep the community in the loop.  make a forum section where you keep those financial statements published.  discuss publicly all major decisions.  if DML did that, they would probably have found a way to cash Jeff out and still be alive without having sold out to VS.

you could also put in that forum section sponsor info, maybe sponsors could post DMF member deals in there.  they'd get volume, we'd get deals, everyone's happy.

for fundraising, you could do one of those graphical thermometers (like on those TV fundraising things) where you have a goal to raise $x for certain projects/upgrades, etc.  just make it a sticky forum post and make it a dynamic pic.  i don't know about you but when I see those things it just makes me want to make the thermometer go up!

I would have gladly paid a buck or two extra for a shirt to help support the board.

Keeping us in the loop is a great idea.  Don't care about financial statements, but letting us know if funds are low empowers us as to the future of 'our' board.

Just made it here tonight. I had joined the "other" forum, didn't post too much and before I could really get into it, it was sold. I really do not like how that company/group runs their forums so I dropped out completely. Glad to see this place up and going. I may not post up a lot - too busy working and riding  ;) - but it's nice to know there is somewhere decent to go again when I want to read/talk Ducatis. Thankee.  [thumbsup]

I've been reading up on this site for a little while, and read on the DML for about a year...up until they f'ed it all up.  I'm glad to see that a lot of the most helpful people from the "other" site are here.  Probably the biggest reason I'm here is because I just picked up my first bike, a '99 900s. Some people are like slinky's.  They serve absolutely no purpose, but they always bring a smile to your face when you push them down the stairs.

[beer]  I just want to thank the Flounder Admins & anyone responsible for the creation and maintenance of the DMF.  I have been really enjoying the fun & information for the past couple of months I have been on the Forum.  What could be better than getting a few laughs & becoming a better rider ? ( I love Ms Incredible's 128 ways to drop your bike thread - & the crash analysis & I saved It threads).

I thought about trying to send all of the Admins a personal thank-you but I was afraid I would leave someone out - so I hope y'all will see this !

Anyway thanks again for all your effort !  The Forum is a little slice of La Dolce Vida as far as I'm concerned.  I'd be honored to buy each & every one of you the beverage of your choice ! [thumbsup]

Some scientists claim that hydrogen, because it is so plentiful, is the basic building block of the universe. I dispute that. I say there is more stupidity than hydrogen, and that is the basic building block of the universe.

It's like I keep saying:  Those who would sacrifice a free range session for a giant beer, deserve neither free range time nor a giant beer.

i have had guys reach back and grab my crotch in an attempt to get around me. i'll either blow in their ear or ask them politely to let go of my wang.
