If you want a comfortable sport bike, you want a GSX-R750. I know that's blasphemy to some but it really is an amazing combination of sporty handling and comfort. I rode from NYC to Montreal & back on one, I don't I'd be anywhere near as comfortable on either the 848 or 675. For the record, I have long arms so I'm not all that uncomfortable on the 675.
No blasphemy here, I would love to have a GSX-R750.

Sorry to keep you guys waiting. So Greg (Sa_S2r) and I rode out to the dealership. I didn't realize it was gonna be such a huge event. They had all the tents set up and quite a few good looking bikes. Didn't take any pics so I failed there. Anyways about the bike, it was a red 09. I was actually very comfortable on the thing. On the 848 I felt like I was over the windscreen, the 675 felt perfect. The ride was nowhere near as harsh as the 848 and would be almost as soft as the monster if the sag was set correctly. Riding the bike I couldn't beleive how smooth the engine was. Didn't chug or surge at all, 848 surged quite a bit below 4k and this is with termis and dp ecu, triumph was stock. Shifting was precise and positive except for nuetral which was difficult to find at first. We did a 16 mile loop that was mostly straight with a few curves. The bike didn't have much torque but that was expected. The powerband was very linear and pleasant until 9 - 10,000 rpm and then the thing just ripped with an intoxicating raspiness. Awesome engine. Could be ridden all day at 5,000 rpm comfortably but comes alive after that. Brakes were great, and right now with one finger on the lever and I liked the feel. Turn in was rather telepathic and fast. The bike just feels light. I was left yearning for more.
So I inquire as to how much they will give me for the monster as a trade in. lets just say I was disappointed. I really like the Triumph but can't just give them the duc. My wife stopped by the dealership just to make sure I wasn't being stupid. She also suggested we wait a few months so we could keep the monster and still get the triumph. Hmmm. Guess we will see what happens in a few months.

Gotcha covered on the pics, sorry for the quality of the iphone pics though.
I had a feeling the dealer was going to give you a crappy deal on the Monster. You've got three things working against you.
1) Soft economy, and the used bike market is saturated and there are good deals everywhere.
2) Bad time of year, a lot of riders are putting up their bikes until next year, although that does not necessarily apply so much down here in Texas.
3) The dealer will never give you crap for a trade in.
My advice would be to wait untill next Spring or Summer and sell the Duc privately. You might also want to wait until you've done a track day. I think part of your problem is you are not so much bored of the bike but would like something different. Also if you wait you might just be able to find the bike you want used instead of new.

Oops - forgot the pics.
First up is the bike that he really wanted, the Daytona SE with the blue frame, I'm not a big fan of white but even I liked this one.
Then there is the Street Triple R which I really liked, but didn't care for the $12K price tag
The there was this customised Speed Triple that I thought some of you folks would appreciate.

This is true, they did a major suspension reworking on this bike for the '09 model year. And you are right about the motor! Damn those things are sweet when on full song. I would have kept mad if we had a track.

Dude, $12K isn't that bad at all. Look, you even get a free ballon!

Well the guy who appraised my monster has never heard a dry clutch before. He almost shat himself when he started it. That pretty much set the tone for the appraisal. But my wife did say if I wait a few months I can keep the duc and still get the triumph. I like that option. Hope she knows I'm still getting a dual sport too.

I know what you mean. I see people react like that to dry clutches down here pretty often. I rode my SC down to the dealer that had one of the KTMs that I was looking at. I told the guy there was no way I would consider trading the Duc in but he still wanted to see/hear it. He actually jumped a little when I fired it up.

I still have a stock cover if you want to install that and quiet it down to help sell it.
By the way - what was the ridiculous price they offered for the trade in?

$2500. I was almost insulted but then the used bike market isn't there right now.

I'm not finding where you said the year & model, what is it?
Not that any of them are worth only 2500, but just wondering.

That's about what I figured, it's always depressing to see what dealers give for trade ins.

I know that you probably have not considered it , but with the stupid pricing available on
a Buell 1125R you may want to consider one.
On top of being available for around 6K , insurance is next to nothing on them.
A friend just purchased one and it is a very capable bike

That's been mentioned and I have thought about it but they are just so damn ugly.
