Honestly, this deal seems kind of messed up and is being based on a lot of "might, might not" happen.  If I understand correctly, you are going to put your bike on their floor.  They are going to put the Triple in the warehouse.  Their goal is to sell your bike for what they can and then give you the Triple for about $3000?
1) I don't see them just sitting on that Triple all winter if someone else is interested.  At the very least, they are still gonna demo it if anyone wants to ride.  That still seems like it will be awful tempting for salesman to use as a goto bike for an immediate sale.
2) This winter, your Monster is gonna be their demo bike!  If they turn people loose for 10 minute test rides or more (did you say they turned you loose on the Triple for a couple of hours?).  What are they gonna do when someone wants to test your Monster before they buy?  Add that to the fact that Monsters are a little less powerful then some other bikes out there.  That just seems to be begging someone trading in a Sportbike for something a little more comfortable to just flog the hell out of it to see if it will satisfy them.
3) Your bike gets damaged on the floor
4) Not to mention all of the "If it can happen, it will happen!" factors:
To many reasons to list for them to have to "Get you a new Triple" for a couple thousand more.  To many "what if's" for me. (granted I may not have all of the facts)

I will stay out of the "Where is your Ducati spirit" side of this conversation.  I look at it like this:  Get the bike that makes you happy!  But, I would try to work the deal to get the bike now.  The senerio I took from your description is giving the Ducati shop a lot of options while you just sit, wait, and hope.

With all of that said, let me tell you a story of a young boy and his choice between two girls for prom.  In one corner is the schools track star.  Lean, fast, and kind of fugly.  In the other corner is the cheerleading captain.  Beautiful, elegant, refined, but just doesn't seem to put out as much.  What he needs to remember is that although the track star is good for a wild romp in the country that weekend.  He has to walk her down the school hallway Monday morning.  He chooses the Prom queen.  Why, you ask?  First, cause he likes seeing the look of envy on all the other boys faces everytime he takes her out.  AND(!!!!!) He can get just as good a ride out of her, he just has to push a little harder!  The boy also discovers a bonus.  The prom queen really screams when he gets on her.

P,

you might be damned right...but so far they have just taken shots of my bike that I still keep in my garage... Grin Grin

I can explain their interest in making me buy a Triumph bike: the Dealer at the moment sells 3 different brands..namely Suzuki, Triumph and Ducati but it seems that in the near future ( just a matter o weeks) they will be no longer Ducati dealer...and in this way they would keep at least one  customer more...
When some time ago I was willing to buy a Street Triple ( they were not Triumph dealer yet) they said that she was assembled in India and components were poor in comparison to the Monster 696...so I bought my S2R1000 ( The new 1100 was not out yet) and sold my old Monster 600......now they seem to have a different view.....

However I feel in a way betrayed by Ducati as well with all their latest Jap-like models....as of this year the new monster will be available also with ABS!

Yep! That makes sense for them to want you on a Triumph.  If they haven't come out and said it, maybe you should.  Might get them to give you a little better deal if you decide to trade.

Salesmen will be salesmen.  When it's all said and done, everything is made in China anyway.

After seeing pictures of your bike I would have to resound...KEEP IT!  Screw the S3, S2R1k annihilates it.

What the heck does that have to do with anything?
You don't have to buy the ABS version, you know.

Let the rest of us who would like to have ABS have the option.
