Very sad, no more Sport Classic 1000

"For 2010, the only SportClassic available in the Ducati range will be the plain GT 1000. The GT 1000 Touring, Sport 1000 Biposto and Sport 1000 S are discontinued. The reason? Slow sales. A Ducati rep just estimated for us that they sold "maybe one hundred" Sport 1000 S models last year. The GT 1000 will continued unaltered for the same $11,495 price."
I guess everyone that wanted one had already bought one.

Right now there is also some new incentives from Ducati NA on the remaining Sport Bip's!! Along with a great zero down, zero payment and zero interest until Spring.. then it's 6.99% X 60mo OAC.
We have 2 Sport Bip's left, this is a great opportunity to snag one of the bikes still in dealers inventory..

This place feels nice. Black S4RS, CRG Barend mirrors, vented clutch cover, gold clutch plate, gold pazzo racing levers, full 50m termi system, little carbon extras....oh yeah ...almost forgot....ban corporate coffee!

I want a 1000S, but a little scared of the economy like everyone else.

I bought a very lightly used Red 1000S during our worst sales year in a decade. Dooooo eeeet! you know you want one.

Just had a read of the Triumph Rat Forum take on the death of the Sport Classic and it was 'interesting'
Only 2 pages but you'll get the gist of it.

funny how they'd compare the Sport Classic to the Thruxton...
The SC rides like a performance/race-oriented bike with retro styling.
The Thrux rides like a retro bike with cafe racer style.
I really looked hard at the triumphs -- primarily the Scrambler/Thrux and the Speedmaster. In the end, the infatuation with Scramblers died when I saw an 08 Hypermotard for the same price as an 09 Scrambler/Thrux -- the HM was too much motorcycle compared to the Triumphs.

I told my father in law (who was once a motorcycle mechanic who put himself through flight school fixing Triumphs) that the new Bonnies were kicked up to about 900 cc but are also 100 lbs heavier and his reaction was a mixture of shock and repulsion.
I do think it's make the beast with two backsing ridiculous that they're mining the dead corpse of Steve McQueen for all it's worth. The dude was the ultimate function over form guy to the point that they modified a Triumph to look like a Beemer because the Beemers then did not have the performance to do the stunt he wanted. I seriously doubt that McQueen would be into the new Triumph Scrams and Bonnies given that the only thing they have in common with the old bikes whichbeat everything else in its heyday are styling cues.
