My wife knows better than to even think she can keep me from riding.  I have not specifically heard any one say "my wife won't let me ride", but I have heard more than a few excuses that if you read between the lines lead me to that.

Shocked  If my husband told me I could not ride or should stop riding, I would tie him down with silk scarves and have my way with him.  That would teach him a lesson Evil

The only condition my wife ever gave me was to be safe. I ride with all my gear all the time anyway.

My wife and I don't get to decide what the other is allowed to do. I don't understand why anyone would want to be in a marriage with someone whose choices they don't basically trust and respect.

Often we'll cheerfully agree to forgo something if the other feels strongly about it ("Honey, I'd feel better if you'd stop shooting up." "Yes, dear.")

If my wife told me that, I'd lock her back in the closet.   Angry

Sort of the same thing.  When selling a bike a dude comes over to look over whatever I'm selling and they are impressed and want it but then I hear, "I'll have to talk about it with my wife (or girlfriend)" and that is the last I ever see of them.  It has happened more times than I can remember.

i have heard "my wife/husband would kill me if i got a bike." as many times as i have heard "i would kill my husband/wife if they got a bike." or "they know better than to even ask."

sometimes i can understand that they need the money for something else, and some are jsut worried that they will get left alone with the kids should someonthing happen. i can respect the part about being careful so you are there to take care of your children, but to avoid anything that might be more dangerous than crossing the street is just boring IMO.

and the g/f and i have already had the discussion one day when she said "i really wish you would just get a car."
she realized that wasn't the best thign to say and quickly apologized. i'll do a lot of things and make a lot of concessions, but if you demand i change something about myself or cease doing something that i enjoy then we don't need to be together.
we changed the discussion to what she was worried about and how i can mitigate the risks of riding as much as i can.
she doens't worry as much now.

I take it they all eventually escaped the closet? Wink
You might want to switch to a lockable cellar next time.  Evil

I have 3 kids (6, 3, and a 1 month old).

Just bought my 3rd bike (and 2nd Duc)

I wear protective gear all the time, and I am insured for $1M.

That being said, I don't ride like a dumbass and have no intention of leaving a rich widow.

Could also be an excuse given to save face.
'yeah, i used to ride a Gixxer, but my wife made me get rid of it cuz i ride crazy fast'

could be any number of actual reasons.

my wife keeps nagging me because i havent put the new Speedymoto clutch plate and cover on her Hyper 1100.
Some people pick wives better than others...
