so what was it like inside the machine?  was there a admin/mod board where they talked about eating kittens and kicking puppies?  how many other mods were there?  wasn't it just you and the 'admin' for  while?

The other Admin told me in a PM that he joined to keep an eye on here so if a link to a page was listed he would follow the link and remove the offending article.

Tell the admin that he's free to repent his sins, abandon the DML, and join us here too  [beer]

To be honest Aaronb, he struck me that he was really stressed out by all the goings on and was struggling to cope with everything, when I emailed him about helping out, I got a response within hours, allowing the time difference between Canada and Australia, that was surprising, I was instantly appointed a super mod (Insert super hero music here....Pause for dramatic effect) Pretty much giving me free reign to do and see what I wanted.
I was amazed that they gave a member with just over 100 posts and less than 2 years of membership so much control. Removeand edit what you want, remove who ever you want, control the board how ever you want! Scary

The Mods Forum over there was really quiet, almost no posts, Ithink we had 2 the entire time after I started helping out... Both from Admin!

But they were really hardcore about making sure that no mention of other forums, except of course other VS forums.
He kept asking me to suggest any other members for Mod duty.
I only wished I knew his name on this Forum, but to be honest I never asked the question, Knowing what I know now If I knew it I would have posted it in my Initial post.

I was going to ask to change my forum name, But I think my old name will be connected to to many bad topics and post's on TOB, so CairnsDuc will stay.

Cheers  [drink]

See, that's what I don't understand.  How did the admin think that by censoring links to other forums, it would keep their membership and participation high?  Banning in and of itself necessitates reduced membership and participation.

I also wonder why our board went critical, while other boards just whined a bit and then continued with business as usual.

QuoteI also wonder why our board went critical, while other boards just whined a bit and then continued with business as usual.

I took it one way, The japanese and HD bike experience is mainly about Bling, bright and flashy but lacking in substance, it's all about the look, The next sick Sticker kit or Chrome piece, so when VS launched there new look on the Japanese bike and Harley Forums it suited there way of thinking and didn't worry the majority of there memberships to much. VS's way of running and designing boards worked.

Ducati owners are more about the substance, style and the whole experience, which the old DML did very well, VS comes along and launches the minimal substance, max bling/neon look, which had worked elsewhere. Didn't do there homework, And the whole thing implodes. And I would put money on it they still don't know why it happened.

As a side note...
I also notice though that the Ducati.ms Forum (VS owned) is very average now, and I see the same sort of problem with a number of members that I saw with DML after the VS invasion, protesting about the advertising and the outrageous pricing being charged to members and sponsors.
so the same problem has arisen, good members have been forced out, There are still some good members there, but the majority have moved on and the daily post count is now very low.

I suspect that this Forum will grow and will no doubt need some sponsorship to survive, but how the old DML did it was the right way, make it easy for members to find the info they need, when they want it.
Unlike VS, who ram it down your throat, putting the priority on $$$ turnover and destroying the very community they claim they want build, support and nurture.

I have been lurking and a member pretty much only a week or to after this board started

Some of you will know me as SpankyMK from the DML.

Very shortly after VS changed TOB I offered to help out with some Mod work, mainly out of loyalty to the old DML, not to VS or the Admin or some strange power trip, I saw all this whining, complaining, Fighting and people being directed away from my favourite hang out.

The DML and it's members had been very good friend's to me since I joined, I could always rely on the DML forums giving me a chuckle and a laugh, make me think, teach me some new trick, or some way to get more out of my Trusty S2R 800, Being in the far north of Australia, there are not many Monster owners up here and no one really to socialize with or learn from, So the DML became my hangout.

So when the DML turned to shit, I wanted to protect the place that I enjoyed, I suppose you could say I wanted to give something back to the board that had given me so much, I saw Mods leaving and a board that was riddled with problems, I wanted to try and get it back to it's old self, give it back it's soul as it were.

When people bagged or put down the DML posted up other links to other forums, Admin said to lock, ban, delete or remove......
But I have to say after a week of this constant removing, editing, deleting, banning.........

I suddenly had a horrid thought,
A Forum is not a Forum without the people, And here I was removing and banning people I had a lot respect for, Had learnt a great deal from, had been the Soul of the DML........

Oh make the beast with two backs! What have I done??!?!

I had missed the point completely with regards to peoples complaints, topics and suggestions to go elsewhere.
What had been a place for the people, had simply become a place to try and make a profit from the people.
Stuff the people who poured there free time and effort in, let's just make a profit!!
People were pouring there hearts out because there favourite place to go was going down the toilet,
They were sad angry and lashing out.
That soul had been ripped out, and the last few remnants that remained I was slowly removing by banning people and removing topics.

But Dickhead here (Me) was a bit to slow to pick up on that!!  [bang]

So after my late night Revelation, I logged out of the DML and have never returned.

So for the last number of weeks I have been lurking around the Forum reading, learning and having a chuckle from the guys (The people) from the old Forum.
Trying to decide should I just pretend it didn't happen, Deny it wasn't me, Claiming I had an evil twin.....
all that Bullshit.
But I have decided to own up, admit I make the beast with two backsed up and cop the shit that will no doubt fly my way.  :-[

If the Admin(s) decide to ban me so be it, I'll respect the umpires decision and be on my way.

So there you have it, This has burdened me for a number of weeks now, I'm glad I got it out.
So now I'll turn this over to the Flounders and the members.
I'm going for a ride  [moto]

Absolutely, come and say hello to the locals...

After about 10 attempts to find out why my account turned into a guest account, without 1 reply, I've given up and stopped emailing..
I would like my details removed and have requested as much, though I doubt they will do that either....

I'll just say welcome. No hard feelings here.

Welcome!  Sounds like you did what you thought could save something you loved.  Your heart was in the right place.  No hard feelings.

I actually wrote to the Admins at VS and asked in a very non-confrontational tone why they didn't allow links.  I have never gotten any response at all.  (not surprising)
Some people are like Slinkies. They're really good for nothing; however, they can still bring a smile to your face when you push them down a flight of stairs.
