*Update*
2000 Ducati Monster M750 (Carb)
~12K miles
Located in NYC area
---------------------
This is a popular question on all motorcycle forums.  But, times are still tough (for me) and keeping the monster just seems less and less doable.  I have a wife out of work, baby, looming mortgage, etc, etc.  And, I couldn't figure out how to safely strap that baby seat on the back...

I'm not looking for offers as of yet. So, I am not posting in the 'for sale' area.  I'm just looking for a best guess on how much I could reasonably expect to get if I did decide to pull the trigger and list for sale.

So, in today's market, what's a 9+ year old bike with a big dent and rash even worth?

Bike; Mods include Napoleon mirrors and Arrow high mount exhaust:

Tank Dent & rash (not shown is rash on wet-clutch cover & slightly bent handle bars) :

Replacement tank (new and not yet mounted):

Front tire still has lots of tread, but is not new.  Rear tire is almost brand new (replaced ~20 miles ago due to nail puncture) and is matching.  I also have replacement handlebars.  They are the aluminum handlebars (an upgrade from the heavier chrome plated steel bars currently on the bike)...

So, what do you guys think?  Please, any guess will do.

Um, ya.  I forgot the most important bits didn't I.

I did kind of give it away though.  Since it is gold frame and wheels and has a wet clutch  Grin

around 3K, maybe less???  There's a few 900 Monsters with more upgrades struggling to sell above 3.5K.  I hope the money issues get better soon, and congrats on your new baby.

Yeah, I'd put it around or slightly under 3k.

I was going to say $3500 as an asking price, before I read the other responses.  You could say, "Ready to ride, pre-dented, and with an extra tank that you can install immediately, or after you drop it once."

If it's been soaked in NYC Chinatown garbage juice, and smells of lard, rice, chicken, pig, duck, and beef, then I'd say $500.  Meaning that you pay someone $500 to haul it away.

I would say $2500 to $2800. I hav elooked at a lot of monsters in the last few months and think that would be fair. Change the tank though...people are very scared of dents and that one looks bad!

I'd expect to get around $2500 or so, max. If I were selling and needed money, I'd take the first offer over 2K.

Bottom line, economy sucks, and it's only worth what someones' willing to pay.

Always less than you'd like to get is my answer. The market is shit. Theoretically my S4r is worth 8500 before goodies. Realistically I see em going for 5500-7500

If I were the one selling it, I'd sell it for $2400 with stock exhaust and without the seat cowl.  I will also fix the tank -- bondo and a dent puller + flat black paint and sell it as a rat bike, albeit, a fancy Ducati rat bike.  You can then sell the nice tank for $300, the exhaust for another $250, and the factory red cowl for $100 in the forums/ebay and you wind up with a bit more than 3K in your pocket...  Even with the new tank and the cowl, etc.,I doubt you'll get 3K out of it, though it is certainly a bargain @ 3K.

Thanks for the input.  That's not too far off from what I was thinking (was thinking $2,500 with new tank, $2,300 without).

Now it's time for some real soul searching... can I really sell my monster??

Undecided  I really am sorry about your situation, but if you decide to sell, just remember that you can always get another one further down the road (and the next time, you can get one with a dry clutch!)
