So this past weekend I met a guy at a local event who owns a Desmosedici, and in fact he had ridden it to the event. While the bike is amazing to look at, I was a little dissapointed in the way that it sounded when he fired it up. I hadn't heard one in person before, but I was just suprised that it didn't sound more beefy than it did. Now I won't deny that it sounded like a race bike, and that's just what it is in the purest form, but still I just expected something more.

Anyone else get a chance to hear one in person?

You know what, I think that I forgot that it was a V4....that makes sense....

But you know, when you hear so much about something you get your hopes up for something specific, then are disappointed....

Yeah its the V4. I have heard one on the street and one on the track (and one going the other way down the street).

They are sub 1000 cc's, each cylinder then is just 220ish cc's, compared to a 900 for example, which has a 452 cc displacement per cylinder.

For crazy loud and scary sounding, it can do it. Like something is angry inside the motor. The RC8 sounds equally evil.

I heard one in the confines of the garage/vendor area at the Indy MotoGP race last year and about shit myself. I thought it sounded f---ing great.

They were told not to start it up again (I think because every other vendor stall nearby emptied out to come see what was making all the noise.

It's an 800cc 4cyl.. End of story.. It does sound great at Laguna Seca, but not much different from the other GP bikes..

It certainly isn't like WSBK where the 1198 sounds waaaaaay different from everything else on the track.

the desmosedici RR isn't not 800cc. It is a 989cc road replica of the GP bike, the year before it went to hell and they pulled the displacement back to 800.

I've heard one at the track.

It doesn't sound much like the Ducs we're used to hearing, but it does sound great.

I've seen one at idle.  Another on a dyno.  And a couple on the street.  I'm going with  waytogo waytogo on the sound in each case.

I've heard it from 2' away, and on the track.

It's a sound I will not forget for the rest of my life.

I bet you heard one with street pipes.  They sound good, but disappointing.  With the race pipes fitted, they sound like hell's comin' rumblin' through town.  That said, they don't have the same bass as a street Duc.  More snarly like a race bike and loud as fook.
