Looking at one of these....
«
on:
November 22, 2009, 06:44:22 AM »
The guy that has it is motivated to have it leave, but wants me to make an offer.
I don't want to insult him, but if I can't pick it up cheap I don't want it.
Anyone have any insight as to a value?

Sorry, no help but it looks like fun.
Hopefully it's not yellow.

offer him $300 and apologize for the low offer, telling him that if he expects more, you'd understand and wish him well with the sale.

That was my second bike... a 78' that my dad bought me in 1980. I beat the ever living crap out of that bike and it still ran
almost
flawlessly.
Not sure of the shape yours is in but I'd offer like 250...and then work around that.... If I remember correctly the cylinder heads were thin. I ended up replacing mine twice. but that could also be due to my riding habits at the time which were.. throttle closed and WFO.

I'm figuring the thing is worth around $250...if it runs, and I believe it does. The thing will probably get no better if it's stored outside this winter, and like I said the guy is motivated.
It's in pretty good shape, just a little bit of sun exposure on some of the plastic, and the baffle is missing from the pipe.
I'm thinking a little ice racing this winter.
I'll see where it goes.

That's exactly I did with mine too....at the time I had a set of tires with the ice screws.

My first full size bike was a 1974 TM-250. Kick start was broke so you had to push start it! If you rode it all day you were worn out. Reminds me of the time my brother who was thirteen at the time was riding the TM and I had gotten a brand new 1981 RM-125. We were riding through Picher Oklahoma and one of the local police chased us. Funny now.

You might check parts availability, I have bought some older bikes that needed work only to find parts non existant, engine and electrical esp. Bike Bandit, or parts dealers out of magazines work best. Other than that, it seems like the price range around Colo. has been $1.20 to $1.45 per cc. for good condition, running bikes. Good luck

Thanks...
If I can get it for $1/cc I'll probably do it...
I checked ebay and other than some brake shoes there were only some parts listed I could make.
The bike is all there besides the item I already mentioned, and I can 'rube goldberg' around that.

i had a '79 ts250, sold it for $400. if it shares parts with the ts, many are still available, believe it or not you can get a brand new 1977-79 ts185 in south america. the biggest issue was the 6v electrical system.

Rode a 175 version of that scooter a bit back when it was nearly new.
Pretty good enduro at that time.
As long as it hasn't been seized and it runs, should be a fun scooter.
Potential issues:
Crank seals may be dried up.
Air filter may have turned to dust.

I'm not real worried about the air filter...
the crank seals would be an issue...
which is why I don't want to spend a lot for it.
