Mirror options
«

I'm having some problems with mirrors and am thinking of making my own solution. Want to see if there is interest. At the moment, I have the CRG LS mirrors on the bike. They are beautifully crafted and are mechanically perfect. Here are my issues though:
1. In my opinion, my bike looks like it has ears.
2. I'm getting a little concerned about having to look away from the road to look in my mirrors.
Now don't get me wrong, they're tons better than the OEM ears. I am wondering if there is a mirror option that puts the mirrors next to the gauges. If not, I have come up with a pretty cool design for something like this. Thanks.

what do you expect to see with the mirrors at the gauges? IMHO, napoleon bar ends are the best. mickey mouse mirrors are great if they are wide and tall.

I will say that I get a great view of what's behind me, but I am wondering how bad the opportunity cost would be with the setup I am thinking of. My opinion of mirrors is that they should be helpful, and right now I feel that they are helpful but I am almost reluctant sometimes to use them due to having to take my eye off what's in front of me. Don't get me wrong, I take my eye off to turn my head anyways, but I am beginning to feel that maybe there is a better compromise.

So what do you have in mind for an alternative?

*shrug*
it wasn't a huge adjustment to barends from regular, stalk mounted mirrors...
I know I've seen low, bar mounted mirrors kind of inboard toward the gauges. I suppose the idea is that you'd be aiming them at the gap around you, but under your arms?

You are thinking of mirrors mounted right at your gauges, or on stalks that are based closer then the stock mirrors? I might not be invisioning your idea correctly. My interpretation of mirrors on your gauges would seem to give you two different view angles of your balls. Might be ok for the blind spots in multi lane traffic, but I don't know if you would see much behind you.
I have yet to find any sort of compromise between style and function of mirrors. IMO really good view = fugly mirror. Good looking mirror = crappy view. Guess I went with style over function cause I settled with one CRG blindspot on the left. I will say that in the looks category, the 2" CRG's are not as noticable as the 3' CRG's on the bar ends. But you still have to look to the ends to use. Which is what you didn't want to do. So I am not helping. I will shut up now.
I am curious to see what your ideas are.

Personally, I only have mirrors because its required here. I'd rather toss 'em, I look over my shoulder mostly to change lanes, and its really only helpful to identify the kind of car behind me, whether its a gumball machine with lights on or not.

I have the Napoleon mirrors specifically to eliminate the mickey mouse ears and I couldn't be happier with the look and the functionality.
