Just got the newsletter from California Superbike School with the 2010 schedule and HUGE announcement.

They will no longer be fielding Kawi 600s.....

Instead students will get the pleasure of riding the all new BMW S1000RR.   Shocked Shocked

"The NEWS is our recent partnership with BMW North America. What that means to you is that you will have the opportunity to ride the amazing new S1000RR at all of our school sessions."

Does it actually say no more Kawasakis?  What does a beginning track rider do with a 190hp bike?

Basically.  The website is already updated with the BMW colors (Blue, red and white).

OK, 27 RR's and 4 F800's in the fleet.

A bit more research, the rr's are available with the race ABS and TC, as well as 4-mode power control.
So perhaps they won't be flying into the weeds as often as one might think.

there are very few occasions @ CSS where you're given full gears.  the exact same thing could have been said about the kawis. 

it's not a go-fast school.  or at least it's not until you're really able to.

Personally, I think it's kind of cool.  However, it does seem to fly in the face of traditional wisdom (e.g. learn faster on a slower bike, etc.).

In fact, I probably wouldn't have ever done a CSS school, but I might actually consider it just to get a day on the BMW.

indeed, i think it's something that will get even more students in the door.

i'm just sayin' that if you're hot-doggin' it/not doing the drill, you get yanked.  they have a specific curriculum and it's a very controlled environment.

when i went to the css school otehr guys there were saying that when they went around the track they couldn't get the bikes to rev over a certain amount something like 11k or so, it still had more but it was basically electronically limited to not go full bore.    one guy came back the next day and told us that on the kawa 600 there is a wire you can detach so that the bike really doesn't make much power over a certain rpm so that is how they are limitin it.

i can see them telling the bmw dealership to do the same thing. afterall the bmw have so many computers and such in them i'm sure if you wanted to limit it to 10k rpm or so you could easily do that. just move the fuel cutoff down.

it is pretty cool that they are using bmw though.
