Anything I should look out for when buying a Ducati S4R?
«

I am looking at a 2007 S4R with 3500 miles on it. Bike is listed as never been down with clean title. Anything mechanically I should look at when I check it out? Any problem areas to check? Any recalls on this bike? Any issues mechanically I should watch out for?
Any advice is appreciated.
I have a few years riding experience and over 10,000 miles. I love the naked bikes and have ridden the Ducati Monster 1100 S along with a Classic Sport GT1000 a friend of mine owns but really like the Monster. Contenders were the Triumph Speed Triple and the Street Triple R.

At 3500 mi. it should be having it's first (after 600 mi.) real oil/filter change. The bike's just getting started. It has such a great engine in it and I doubt most of us could tell much difference in the /T vs. /S models suspension.
Once you get 3000 good mi. on the bike you should "be one" with it. Trust me here, It's a very rewarding experience.
I can imagine the new SF is too.
Oh yea, what to look for? Look for the keys - all of em. And the little card with the double secret code. You think I kiddn' huh?

To be more specific, the bike has a red key, it is crucial. The bike has an immobilizer, and you
need
the red key to reset it. It should also have two black keys and a code card. Also look at your bank account, make sure you have money for a tail chop, exhaust, bars/clip ons, bar end mirrors, clutch pressure plate and cover etc etc. [moto]

Okay, I was concerned about this. The bike only has the black key.
The guy already has chopped the tail off...and it looks like he did it with a hacksaw and he just left it that way.

Not worth the hassle/expense.

Thanks man, there were a few things that made me wary of this bike. The poor tail hack job, the fact that the bike looks like it has a lot more miles on it than the odometer indicates (Michelin Pilot Power with rear worn down more than the Pilot Powers I have on my current bike with higher mileage) and the fact that it only has one key.
Whoever owned it prior put a bunch of carbon fiber parts on it and all of it looks like it needs a good polish/clear coat. The bike looks like it has been stored outside its entire life.
It rode fine and it has no crash damage but otherwise it looked like it needs some TLC.

When I bought my 04 s4r the salesman held up the red key and said, If you lose this key, don't come back here to trade. He said it was worth about $1800 at the time.
