so I got caught in my car some time ago, by the highway patrol in a back street speed trap, not far from where I work...
_never_ had any infringements in all my driving years (20+ years), didn't admit fault at the scene, elected to fight it in court.
it was a 30+ offense (50 zone in an industrial area), and whilst my good record got it reduced to 2 months suspension, still had the fine, plus the lawyers costs, plus 2 months off... I got the "yes, you do have an excellent driving record - you should know better", as opposed to the red p plater caught on a bike on christmas day 45+ over, with a string of minor offenses on the license.
He also got a similar reduction in time, so who knows.
I'd guess that a 30+ or worse offense is treated differently to a more minor offense...
All I know is that it's a _lot_ harder to get reasonably priced insurance once you've lost your license (for a period of time anyways). Keep that in mind when you get tempted to roll it on!

Fark GF...
Down here I would be guessing you would lose your car under the Hoon Laws... (not sure for how long) 3 month suspension and a $500+ fine...

82 alleged in a 50 zone - did not know it was a 50 (of course!) and picking up my pregnant wife from a dodgy train station at 10pm at night. Yeah stupid... i know it's a 50 zone now!
and I got all but the car confiscation...

What a basted. The last time I was 30+ the copper wrote it up for 29. I think he liked by bike. I saw that he did write on the back of the ticket stub in his book what the real speed was......I'm sure that was just in case I took it on.
I said that you very much (stupidly) and drove off. 30+ now days is lock up your bike and walk.
It wasn't until a couple of months later once I paid the ticket that I got the letter advising I'd lost my license.
3 months off wasn't too bad as when you get it back you have 12 points again [moto] [moto]
Insurance is a bit of a bummer but I'm past 2 years now so all good.

I think that its now and always will be a fact of life that ANY Government anywhere will use the "Speed Kills" stick justification to fleece us from our hard earned.
The campaigns are in reality more like 20% enforcement and 80% money raising nowadays?!
If the authorities were really serious about the damage we cause to each other on the roads, maybe they would go back to the start and make sure that the driver first up has the required training and vehicle operator skills before they fly solo. And then concentrate on where most traffic conflicts occur other than straight stretches of open 3 lane highway.
But, because they want to keep their snouts in the trough for as long as possible they wont piss off the voters with a more restrictive and expensive licencing system, because after all in this country its a GOD given right to have a licence isnt it??
(Bugger having to prove you know how to drive though!)
And of course skill, situational awareness and attentiveness have absolutely nothing to do with it!

Get it right....
Detective Leading Senior Constable Ita...
LOL... They would have no idea who I am RJ... But I'm smart enough to read their guidelines (available on the net) and word my letter to fit the guidelines
Fight 'em if you must, but do so at your own peril..

Hi All.
Well it finally happened, Big Brother chistened the Monster.
Via one of the Vic department of revinue raising cameras.
Ita, do you have a link to those guidelines?
I've heard the 3 year thing before, and have a nice letter from Vicroads giving me a discount on my license renewal because of rising safely...allegedly.
But hows this for ironic.....Fine was in the same mail delivery as my CAMS license renewal.
Ha Ha Ha.
Cheers
