Major Tail CHOP, minimalist back end.

Gone w/ the fugly DOT rear beer trey. ...
Thought I'd post my bike's rear end since it is cleaner than most.
Here are a few shots I just took. I bought it this way, mostly. I mounted the blinkers w/ small plate brackets I made & installed a Harley license light to help w/ the cops. The seat lock was sawed off along w/ the end of the frame rails. Mega tail chop. I love the way it looks. The seat latch is now released by a pull cord that is looped & sticks out on the left side. Nothing hangs below the frame rails on the back end. You can see where the frame was touched up black where the lock was to keep it from rusting.
This is a drastic alternative to the lic. plate bracket I have for sale. I'm told by the local cops it is not quite legal but sev. of them said they wouldn't stop me as long as they can see my license plate (which is just higher than the back tire, so hopefully they can). They didn't want to vouch for other jurisdictions.
I'd imagine it would be pretty easy to do. I have no pics of the lic. plate bracket, it is thin sheet aluminum, bent a few times.
My plan is (one of these winters) to saw off the additional brackets back there for the side panels, old beer trey, etc & powdercoat the frame the same army green as the motor's side cases. It's a '98.

Nice job! Looks great. Is your rear fender supposed to look like that from behind?

Well your tank certainly isn't cleaner than most. Oh, and I can't wait for this sh*t storm.

I saw your bike outside of the yacht club although I can't remember which day now. Not a bad looking bike, I like it.
Most chops seem pretty similar to that to me.
This is a massive chop:
Edit: also, may I suggest an integrated tail light?

Major or not it still looks good and clean. I've got the later ST style frame and have been thinking of mounting my plate like that, really cleans up the back. I haven't in part for the reasons you mentioned, probably not entirely visible and/or legal. And I'm lazy. I was also looking at those brackets to mount it off the rear axle.

Not sure this would clear my low slung stock exhaust, or if it would drag in corners. We'll see, almost time to put the bike up for the winter and start playing. 36 degrees is tough to ride to work in these days.

There are 3 tail-chops out there.
The Standard (of which yours is a very nicely done example BTW)
The MonoPosto (see Celli's bike above)

I'm trying to find a picture of the latest iteration of Moike's monster. Anyone have one?

Big deal, that's how everybody does the old style Monsters. That's exactly how mine is done. License plate hangs down so I'm legal everywhere, and that's it.

Hardly.

Chop your grab rails and you'll find you miss them.
