that whole incident was a circus. the taskforce blocked the entrance/exit to the track and checked every motorcycle on the property. we continued to race while they did their inspections.

one of my friends had a nasty crash (fractured his neck/back) and had to be transported. he "wasn't available" when they came around to inspect his bike, so they impounded it. said the vin "looked funny." a few months later, after letting the bike sit outside in the rain, they finally decided nothing was wrong with the bike after all. my memory is IZ_, but i think they charged him for the storage/impound.

gp bikes don't have vins, so when they came across those in the inspections, they tried to impound them. there were some, uh, heated discussions regarding those bikes. they eventually relented and let the gp bikes go.

iirc, there were only a few bikes impounded and all but one was returned. when they whole thing was said and done, they found one stolen bike that been ridden to the track and belonged to a spectator.

seriously though, couldn't you and conceivably win?  Id be pretty pissed if they literally stole my bike and threw it out in the rain.

I remember. There was a write up in one of the mags about it, with the bikes that ran open carbs. I believe you are referencing the subject of this thread:  No Title Track Bikes - Ducati.ms. Again, the cops were looking for titles. They were reinformed, as you put it, that the average joe doesn't bring his title to the track for race weekend OR for a trackday.
