Go for the SF.  The new monsters are too ugly.

"Yelling out of cars, turning your speakers out the window to blast your music onto the street, setting off M-80 firecrackers, firing automatic weapons into the air—these are all well and good. But none of them create a merry atmosphere of insouciance and bonhomie quite like a revving motorcycle.

The switch on the SF is different from the '03 Monster. I wasn't planning on taking a test ride so they gave me gloves and a helmet.  When it stalled, I couldn't feel the on/off switch/button with those thick gloves.  Plus, watching in the rear for oncoming traffic to nail me on a $15K bike that wasn't mine..just wee bit of a stress.  Wink  It was probably about 3 seconds in real time but felt a lot longer.  Oh well..got it started and had a fun ride!

I put one of those SF switches on my Hyper.

Aren't the maintenance intervals longer on the new bikes?

Maybe your boy doesn't want/know how to work on the new ones?

Of course, you could still get that Ridgeline you've been dreaming about for years instead.

IZ,
With as many "shade-tree" mechanics that are at your disposal here in Phoenix, maintenence costs shouldn't even be a factor.  Valves are easy, whether you're looking at 2 or 4 per head.

P's bike with the new longer intervals is still unhappy if you go much past 6k. They can advertise it all they want, I don't believe it.

Actually, who does anyone think we are kidding here.

We've been down this road with the IZ before.

We'll debate pros and cons for days, weeks, maybe even months.

In the end, he'll stick with the 620.

Mark my words.

Well he can't get a new bike, he might be moving to Turmenkistan.

Or they might be having a kid.

Or he might be moving.

OTOH, we may get a IZ_ pic of a "Go Daddy" girl who happened to be at the dealership one day while he was there waffling over the (non)decision.

Well, my mechanic did A LOT of work on the 620 in the past couple days.  It may last me a few K more.  Wanting that 1100 though!!

Turkmenistan, eh?!   laughingdp   Actually, I was just looking at books on Belgium and Croatia about an hour ago.

We were both offered great positions here though so we'll be sticking around for a little while longer.

Define "a little while longer."   And while you're at it, define "sticking around" too.

So, if you have your bike back AND you're sticking around, THEN does that mean you're going to come out to local meet-ups more?
