I look forward to seeing the bike in person some day.

laughingdp I have a GSXR1000, GSXR750, RC51, Hayabusa, 999, 916SPS, 996S, etc...

I definitely don't 'need' a GSX-R 750, but I would love to have one.  Some say it is the perfect sportsbike.

i think its awesome that a bike with that much power is that cheap, it means that bikes should be getting cheaper across the board.

In spite of all that power, the bike didn't do all that well in world superbike.  Admittedly, it was new and may have had some bugs but so was the new Aprilia that kicked it's ass.  It takes more than great dyno numbers to be the fastest and win.

I would have to agree. It's an '05 but it really doesn't matter what year it is, they are the nicest combination of 600/supersport weight and flickability and some big bike punch. That's why Suzook keeps cranking them out after everyone else gave up on 750s. They are loyal to the bike that helped put them on the performance bike map. Haven't ridden a 848 yet but I have heard that they are the Duc version of that combo.

Yeah, I've got big block bikes but I'm an slow old fart and I still don't know what to do with 185.5 hp on the street. I used to say "too much is just enough" regarding hp but now I am like others on this thread: how the bike makes power is much more important than peak hp numbers. Is it usable? Is it peaky? etc...

i've heard that the aprilia had been under development much, much longer than the bimmer.

Thanks for the info.  It's nice to hear from an owner firsthand.

I sat on an 848, but I find the GSX-R much more comfortable.  I believe the GSX-R seat height is lower as well.

I think the numbers are impressive from a design standpoint, but that doesn't necessarily equal satisfaction for an owner. I used to get caught up in the numbers and graphs, and felt like having more peak hp was always the goal. Over the years, though, I've found I'm much more interested in how a bike makes power than how much peak power it makes. The ride tells the story. Still, conceptually, that graph is quite impressive.

This is exactly what I mean..  waytogo

Just look at the huge difference at where the HP is being made in the RPM range.

i'm not sure i would call this a huge difference...

Code:
BMW S1000RR	185.5 @	13,120
Yamaha YZF-R1 161.6 @ 12,430
Aprilia RSV4 165.0 @ 12,400
Honda CBR1000RR 170.6 @ 12,290
Kawasaki ZX-10R 163.1 @ 12,150
Suzuki GSX-R1000168.1 @ 11,900
Ducati 1198S 157.4 @ 9,800
Kawasaki ZX-14 174.0 @ 9,400
Suzuki Hayabusa 179.5 @ 9,300

the "low rpm range" of the 1198, 14, and busa are a tad misleading given their larger pistons and lower overall revs.

Check out the Akrapovic numbers of the Honda CBR1000RR vs the BMW a guy posted on another board. (I have no idea how to insert the image here.)

It's not the number, it's the curve.
