Boom Tubes - how loud?

Having gone from a Termi system to a "sort of BoomTube" (Mark made me some extensions for my Termi headers), there is a considerable sound difference.  Not only are they louder, but they have a sharper tone.   They sound very cool (IMO) at idle and really, REALLY scream when you flog it.  They will turn plenty of heads on decel.  Exactly what I wanted, but I am sure it is not for everyone.  In referencing my bike and the setup I have, the volume is a little louder then the stock udder by itself (just volume, BTubes have much better sound quality).  I believe Mark can baffle however you want them (I told him that I wanted mine loud), but with the regular boomtubes, you are not going to have that low, muffled growl that Termi's give.  It is gonna a much more distinct thump at idle and window rattling @ 9000rpms.

...and y'know... right after I pay attention to the Invisible Evil Guy who sits up there on my left shoulder, pretty soon I begin to hear the tedious doubting comments of Invisible Captain Sensible counselling my from his perch on my right shoulder..... and CS is saying things like "sure,it looks cool.....but what happens to backpressure, hmm?"  and "how come Ducati needs all that pipework if it does nothing?" and "whats the ECU going think about not having its lambda sensors reporting for duty?".  Yeah, I know Captain Sensible is a party-pooper but he does raise some valid concerns.  And all the while, IEG keeps whispering "boom tubes........"

Tell Capt. Sensible to fist himself.

Any of the pipes with baffles are going to have no problems with back-pressure, and Mark can weld in a lambda sensor bung pretty easily.

I can't wait until Marquez gets on his level and makes Jorge trip on his tampon string.

How about starting out with an experiment or two or three?

1 Like my dealer's head tech tried with no issues (not on a Monster, but...) Unscrew the O2 sensors and tape them somewhere up where it's dry. Plug the holes, of course. They'll read LEAN and ECU adjusts accordingly. Smell the exhaust to see if/how far off it might be.

2 Ride without cans for a while, to check out how it runs without back pressure.

3 Both of the above

Maybe not the ideal set up, but it might give you a few ideas or valuable insight.

Captain Sensible and The Evil One have a well balanced sadomasochistic relationship, so I'm sure they'll arrive at the fisting arrangements in due course  [laugh] [laugh]

I never thought of that.....  Boomtubes with lambda provision...  the DP ECU would be non-the-wiser  [evil]

Damn Obsessed? ....now I have an external Evil One leading me further into temptation...   ;D 8) ;)

M1100 BoomTubes have twin 02-lambda sensors.  Ditto for tuned baffles.

Give the sound levels you are looking for, I'd suggest waiting for the MonoBoom upcoming. (although it will be more costly due to more labor, time and materials to create)

02-lambda adjustment?  In the "bat cave" work is being done now on that.  Solidstate, LED display and adjustment buttons to allow for modulation.  It even has a "heartbeat" to show the device is working!  Purely alpha at this stage and we want to do some riding on it via the "test crew" once a beta version is finished.  Will do a version for the Siemens ECU and the Marelli ECU.  More updates on this later in January in my sponsors area <---- (left side of screen)

Obituary:  Tuesday December 22, 2009.  Captain Sensible, long suffering adviser and ignoree finally lost his battle for relevance and passed away suddenly.  According to his nemesis known as The Evil One, there were no suspicious circumstances.

He will be sadly missed (by my bank balance, credit cards and the makers of KY).

RIP.

Lol, so it's boomtubes? [laugh]
Out of respect for the recently departed, I couldnt possibly comment  ;)

That... and the fact that I think I ought to wait to see how the forthcoming MonoBoom shapes up before I pull the trigger.  << Insensitive choice of words there, I'm so sorry  :-[.

I thought the DP ECU eliminated the use of the O2 sensor anyway...
