Another thing that calls it into question is that tow rope. It's not a chain, there's no way it has the strength to tow that truck...

Nah, the vid is in Dutch.... we've been having a lot of snow lately. In the last bit they are questioning whether the truck will be able to brake after it has been pulled out of the snow.

I don't tow things with chains.  ;)

Ah, that makes sense -- with a few generations on both sides of my family from Holland and the last name DeVries I can usually at least recognize spoken Dutch, even if I can't speak it. My Russian's a whole lot better (even though it's getting wheezy and creaky...)

When was the last time you towed a 30,000lb + truck?

If I remember right, most snatch straps have rated strengths in the 20K lbs. range -- and that's dangling dead weight, not pulling a vehicle on its own wheels. Parts are going to start flying off the vehicles before you break a strap in good condition. Back when I had a vehicle for such things, I used to carry both an elastic snatch strap like the photo below and a logging chain when I'd go off-road or out to play in the snow. For an extraction like the one that started this thread (about which I remain a skeptic, but still...), I'd have picked the more elastic, dynamic strap over the static chain.

I'd use the chain for towing (instead of tugging) or if I wanted to anchor my truck before using the winch, or other stuff for which I didn't want a springy strap.
