Left coasters - renting a bike?

A riding buddy is trying to work up a west coast trip. He's planning to rent an HD from eagle rider. I've ridden harleys and am quite fine limiting my experience on them to the past tense.

So based on the offerings from eagle anyone have bikes they would suggest?  Any other rental options out there to pick up something on the sportier side? Fuel range is a concern since he'll be on a touring bike. So as much fun as a rental hyper would be I'd be stopping 3x as often

Does he have a route planned or know what city he wants to pick up the bike?  I know that the Eagle Rider in SF has/had more than just Harleys.  Here's the Bay Area local resources thread for bike rental options around here.

Frankly, if he's gonna spend any significant amount of time riding, he should just buy a used bike, ride it and then sell it right after.

Plan is in the most vague of stages. Tentativly it's going from LA to SF or perhaps vice versa. The plan might be a little more your than is really to my favor but that's tbd.

I've looked at Eagles selection but it doesn't really say shag bikes are availible at what location. They do list An ST3...  Honda and kawi STs also. I do have a thing for the big ugly 1200 GS.

It's probably going to be a week long trip - so I don't think a buy n sell is in the cards.

San Francisco has like, four shops one could rent from-really depends on your starting point, but that would open up the realm of what's available.

I rented from the Eagle Rider near LAX about a year ago. Got a BMW r1200rt and had a good rental experience from ER.

The big Beemer was easy to ride, but beware of the tall seat height. (I'm 6'4", so I had no problem with it) Lots of storage in the huge cases. That bike might be a good option for you. I prefer its handling to that of the GS. YMMV

i've rented from them a couple of times, or through one of their affiliates.

i have also rented from
www.sportbikerentals.com in vegas. they are actually based out of LA though. I believe I had unlimited miles.
i don't think they will do a one way though. their security deposit was also much higher than the other guys, but the guys running it were riders and on the ride back to the hotel we were discussing just how fast the 1098 would go

I always trip out on guys posting on the internet for people to look for a website for them. I right clicked his statement and googled "rent a ducati" and (holy shit!) found this:

I'm doing all my current posting from a phone at my folks house in small town NC. Not exactly the ideal Internet environment.

Relax brother. Just pointing out the absurdity of people actively posting on the Internet asking people to look up stuff for them ...on the Internet. I think it's funny, weird, odd, whatever. Not enough of an issue for you to get "unappreciative" over.

Seriously, there's nothing wrong with asking for advice about resources you can find easily on the web. I'm sure the OP is also interested in who's cheap, who has a good reputation, who is active in the community, etc.

Thanks to the internet, while we can find information easily, sorting through it is another matter.

Entirely different questions which would be reasonable to ask.

"Hey are the vendors associated with the DMF generally reliable?" -Legit question...
"Hey I heard there is this website called the Ducati Monster Forum, anyone got a link to the site?"  

And I don't appreciate your tone.
