A Most Magnificent Monster

« on: December 29, 2009, 07:28:25 PM »

Went out today for several hours of exposure to SoCal sun and roads.  Breakfast at Santa Paula Airport followed by a mental coin toss as to which direction i would take.  Decided on the Monicas so headed up over Balcomb to Moorpark (I waved to Ryan and Stuart as I rode trhough town) and Westlake.  Up Westlake Blvd and into the amusement park.  Very few riders, but a surprising amount of roadwork, and several encounters with gravel trucks using up their lane and some of mine (their worst offense was how they cut some corners and left a lot of dirt and rocks where we like them least).  I pulled up to the Rock Store to find I was the only one there...pretty cool feeling, like being the last man on earth but with a motorcycle.  My solitary revelry was short lived however as three other riders pulled up a few minutes later...to no ones surprise, a bullshit session ensued.  Our conversation was immediately cut-off when a very pretty young woman (reminded me of Liv Tyler come to think of it) was spotted pushing her Ninja 250 up the road.  Apparently, the lady's steed had lost it's fire and refused to start up.  Looked to me as she was being most ably assisted by two of the other fellows, so I mounted up and headed down the trail. Spent the next few hours just riding up and down and accross the mountains, wrapping it up with a cup of coffee at the Trancas Starbucks and admiring the beauty of  Zuma Beach.  I briefly gave a thought to our brothers on the East Coast, but it started me to shivering.

Here, here...

Ever since arriving home in 2002 (all time before that was just considered 'wandering'), I take my bike out for a ride on my birthday....in February!  Grin

Try that in Michigan and see if you even make the end of the driveway!  laughingdp

Just as nice today...

Had planned to ride with Stu and Ryan today, but they were unable to make it, so I headed out solo again.  Ojai and Hwy 33 were on the route.  Picture below was taken just past Pine Mountain Ridge Road.  A few minutes later, a couple of Ducs pulled up...gabbed a bit (turns out one of them had sold a bike to Stu!), then they headed off back towards Ojai.  I decided to go further on, but then turned around at Ventucopa and returned to Ojai.
