Opinions - 45t to 47t sprocket M696

I am thinking about changing the rear sprocket on my M696 from 45 to 47 teeth
Any experience/thoughts with this change?? - I should get more torque but lose top end
BTW I have the 14t on the front
Also, should I go with the DP sprocket or aftermarket (I can get PBR sprockets cheaper)
One last thing - Is the chain long enough?

i think common wisdom is that you do one or the other (down in front, up in rear) but not both as they both do the same thing.
of the two, i have also heard that going up on the rear is the better (but more expensive) choice. cant remember why....

I too have been thinking of going up in the back and have been reading & asking around so this is just MY thoughts based on what Ive heard as I haven't done it myself yet.....
It IS more expensive to go up in the back and more labor intensive, also you DO loose about 10-15mph on the top end and you WILL have to buy a new chain (length) even with the back wheel adjustment all the way in + the size of the 47T sprocket is almost the diameter of the back wheel's rim so some people don't like how it looks....
My thoughts on the above are to just go up to 46T in the back which I think & based on the gear commander online site would help with the rpms in low gear & around town without sacrificing so much of the top end and the added wear of changing the front sprocket. Granted you probably won't feel it as much (the illusion of added torque) + you won't get to the rev limiter as fast when cruising in highways (something good at least for me).
I'm still undecided as I really don't have too much problems with driving the 696 around the city and in stop & go traffic the way it comes stock and would hate to have 125/130mph as my top speed! So if I did end up doing something to it, probably will be very minor and not something as noticeable as 15T to 14t front or 45T to 47T in the back....

The 14t on the front really smoothes out first gear - I recommend it I think everyone on the DMF does as well
on occasion, I drive in the city but I prefer the open roads

Nothing mysterious, just math...
Your 14T front makes your bike run at 6.67% higher revs at all times.
45 to 47 rear sprocket adds another 4%.
Loss of top speed? Most likely, your bike and you are limited by air resistance before you hit the rev limiter. It shouldn't be too hard to establish the facts - if you know your rev limit, you try to reach that under safe conditions in 6th gear.
If you can, the 45/47 mod will limit top speed. If you can't, the 45/47 mod won't limit much either.

ahh the gearing and top speed problem...
i ran a 14t and hit 212kph on the speedo (hitting stock ECU rpm limiter, not air resistence) with a corrected speed of 121mph losing about 10mph top end.
after my engine work i'm going back to 15t, and possibly a scary 140+mph top end with some aero aids and a new higher rpm limit of 10500. look out 620 capirex!

What's the stock ECU / DP ECU limits on the 696?
What do you mean by "corrected speed" and how do you know that you lost 10mph?

stock/dp 8500rpm/10500rpm
actual vs indicated is 8% per manual.
i never did test the 15t top end though but others have indicated 130-132

Wow - that's a good reason to get the DP ECU. On my S2R 800 I think it moved from ~8,500 to 9,500.

don't quote me on the 10,500 since i haven't test it yet. interestingly i've read the stock is 9000 but fuel cutout at 8500 or so.. not a nice feeling but at least in a straight line manageable.

so speed corrected that's about 126mph. which seems about right if you had a bit more.

Yep, sounds about right. The other thing I didn't mention is you really have to tuck yourself as low as you can because the wind force against you is really bothersome and come up the gears revving up to round 9000rpms right before the red light comes on (it comes on as you're pulling in the clutch to shift) and then you have plenty of power, easily gets to 130mph (once corrected).
