yeah, but an E36 M3 motor dropped into a 318ti (with all the other hop-up bits) is a far, far, more interesting car
Or you could do this

So essentially it's the price of my car again, plus labor. Oh, and an engine.

The trick in supercharging is screw speed at max boost. You wanna keep the IAT as low as possible. Ideal would be an intercooler for the unit that is
external
from it.
I say go for it if the kit is well planned out for your application. One thing to check is if the kit has the provisions to reprogram the ECU or do you have to send it out etc etc.
As for the slushbox, just have it rebuilt with a performance build and valve body kit.
If I didn't want to retain my 5/100 warranty on my new Camaro I would have a Maggie 2300 on mine already!

If you want max squirt that's what I vote for. Having a wiper for the visor helps too.
If you supercharge the "ti" you will go down a long and winding road and will always, always have to deal with it one way or the other. Depends on your love of the car, your love of speed and your love of tinkering (or spending money on someone else to do the work for you.) --- Remember, no modification goes unpunished, ever. Our guy with the 540i has over $28,000 in the car including mods and that was a used car. For that dough he could have had a used M5 and it would outperform the car he has now.
Choose your battles carefully.

Oh, fear not, my battle is chosen. My need for at least one reliable vehicle outweighs the TI's abhorrent performance. If only my transmission would suddenly die and have to be replaced with a manual.

I hate to tell you but you don't want to do that either for many of the same reasons as above.

So what you're saying is enjoy my little automatic while I have to deal with crappy traffic then sell it to a nice old lady.
