Temperatures of exhausts - any idea?

Thinking of repainting the headers and slip-ons.

Anyone has any idea of the temperatures at the slip-on surface and the headers?  Apparently the threshol do fthe intended paint is between 300F to 1200F.

Appreciate answers to this odd request.

FWI  - most of the motorcycles I am familiar show an exhaust gas temperature of 1200F to 1300F cruising at @ 70MPH -
1350 to 1400 when racing
This is with an EGT gauge sensor close to the head.  And most of those bikes are old Brit Iron

A 900 monster at idle will reach 1200 degrees in 15 minutes 2 in. from the head. measured with an infrared temp gun.

there have a been a lot of people on here ceramic coat exhausts with better results than painting and rather inexpensively too.

I am grateful for the response.  Unfortunately where I am there is no ceramic coating facility, hence the only option is to paint (I assume powdercoat will flake).  The 1200F temperature is for a spray can of black coating used to coat BBq pits! 

I am also thinking about using some clay-painting paint on the slip-ons to do some logo touch up; hence can some kind soul measure the temp on the slip on cover itself?

where are you? you can package it and ship it for little $.
the BBQ chips easily (used it)
the stock exhausts get hot with the catalytic converter and the backpressure. too hot to touch for awhile after riding. not sure the exact temp, but damn hot.

Over in Singapore. How much you guys reckon to ceramic coat the headers only?

even high temp powdercaot will flake.

BBQ paint... well. Not for nothing but if you cant get any real brands i suggest you not even bother. i use bbq paint on my headers and it goes through several heat cycles a day + water + crap and moisture. it doenst look to good. Its still black though! and looks better than stock!

I spent much of my adolesence repainting air cooled VW headers with all varieties of BBQ and high temp exhaust paint.  I never found anything that stuck to the header in that section 2" from the head for more than a week.  Similar kind of air cooled engine.  That thing gets seriously hot, well over the 1200F most paints go to I guess.
