I might Dan... But until 2015, I have to scratch that itch domestically, once annually (or so) on my Harley. After 2015, my daughter will be 18 and I would feel easier about staying overseas for extended periods...
I'd probably do South America first as my Spanish ain't too bad.
What's nice about S. America is you can ride your own moto down there. I've always wanted to do that.....

Good man! Priorities #1!
I do plan a SA part of this journey starting Oct/Nov. Baja is at your doorstep. Or fly down meet me in Costa Rica for a week or so of getting lost in the Jungle!

Just thinking today about what moto to get? Cheap, reliable, dirtbike based. The bm's and Ktm's are nice but i worry about parts availability.

That is a good question actually. I have no idea. I know people have done the trip on the BMWs, but don't know if one particular manufacturer has better support than any other.

stay out of Venezuela! It's a shame to say it but being from there and having family there still I know things are getting worse and crime is WAY up.

This post is for my riding friends: virtually, locally and worldwide. Lately I've been spending most of the time playing connect the dots with tourist attractions in the guide-book but now its time to get back to what I came here to do and that's ride. Cambodia could quit possible the flattest country in this hemisphere. Which makes it nice when you have to lay down some tracks and make up a lot of kilometers in the day (to get out). As far as fun riding, lets just say I'd rather the police just take the rest of my money, call it a day and save me a sore ass. (that's sore ass from riding not the police, well, you know). Laos on the other hand has kilometer after kilometer of beautiful roads to get a proper "Sunday ride". As we like to call our escapades up Hwy 1 in NorCal. Although I'm only going 50Kph which is roughly 31mph. Which makes for a long day when you go 475K's, but plenty of time to stop and take some pictures. Back to the roads. Clean, clear, no traffic, no police, jungles, rivers, waterfalls, endless dirt tracks it's all here. When i make it back to Laos, im getting a real dirt bike to explore. My bike didn't take the 6in deep pot holes too well. At some point I lost my tail light. Probably was the same time my rear fender and bags fell off but I didn't notice the light or the turn signal missing. Guess that's my deposit of road Karma for someone else. And now I present to you: Riding in Laos.
First off some new bling for the bike. I blew out the first set of shocks early on, and the constant bouncing on springs was killing me. So for roughly $23, new set of shocks. The springs are too soft but it'll have to do.
Dirt tracks
Shadow puppets
Smaller dirt tracks
And smaller, that lead too...
Waterfalls!
wf, laos
And rivers
On the way to school
Random villages
Laundry in the river
Roads
Limestone mountains
Trash cans made of old truck tires
Jungle road
Taking a much needed break on a long day

Yup the Helimots. I had a new set made right before i left and these are the old set that he put a full new palm on both for $70. So the palms are new with the old tops. So far so good, but i imagine they'll have holes in the fingers by the time im done.

Doubt it, guys were just making them on the side of the road with a hammer and punch to get the "bead" part of the tire apart from the rest. No sawzall was used. The base is made from the bead part and the rest is just the tire turned inside out. Ill see if i can find one around town and get more detailed photos if your interested.
