I usually don't think people should try "cafe'ing" monsters, but these are some good examples. They deal with the angle issue by raising/modifying the tanks position.

Those are pretty cool.  Those 3 bikes are actually the same bike with three different paint jobs.

unless i don't see something, that tank is in the stock position.  the side bumpers sit on the frame in the correct place/angle.

it's either a Roadracing tank or has been cut to show more of the vert cyl.

this is coming from a guy (me) that has no idea what type of bike that Bimota is, but who would buy a bike, never ride it, and wait till its obviously got a case of the two decades old ugly to sell it? Again, no idea what this bike is, could be a mean machine, but honestly, i was 8 when that was made.

you never found a bike older than you that you like?  interesting.

Bimota is an italian company that uses other company's engines and builds super-duper-awesome racebikes around them.  They are similar to NCR in that respect, except NCR uses >only< Ducati mills while Bimota has used Ducati, Kawasaki, and others. 

Most of their bike designs are forward looking, and use a lot of features (engine and aerodynamics) that might look weird to someone with only street-bike experience.  Race bikes will sacrifice form for function where necessary, whereas street bikes are just the opposite, since most people buy bikes based on looks alone.

Compare the Ducati Paso -- widely derided for its looks -- but the design was an attempt to have a controlled air flow for the engine and a futuristic look.  Only now, almost 30 years later, do people appreciate it, probably mostly for nostalgia, but they are much more loved now than years ago.

As far as why he'd buy it and not ride it?  Can't answer that.  But look in the background.  He's got a bunch of bikes, and the Bimota probably wsa the most expensive one.  You can expect this bike to sell for >$50k

That being said, you need to get out more... :-)

FYI here is that dude's collection.  I'd like to see the Santa Monica and Laguna Seca on the right side row.. drool

Te DB1 is one of my favorite bikes of all time.  What a beauty!  If only I had an extra $20k or so lying around.

well put sir, thanks for the run down. I never said i don't like bikes that are older than me. Would love a '76 cb400 or kz 400, among others, including italian machines. I just said i try to avoid vehicles that may end in number anywhere from '82 to '98
