Does anyone else have seasonal beer preferences?
For me in the winter all I crave is dark beer... darker the better! Stouts/ porters. Even my prior favorite wheat beers just taste off..

I have season beer preferences....the colder it is, the darker the beer needs to be for me...

I like IPAs. My seasonal preference is I may have a Lager/Pilsner if it's real hot...but I still might have an IPA!  laughingdp

Plenty of great dark microbrewery beers in CA. North Coast Brewing's Old Rasputin Rusian Imperial Stout is fantastic, maybe one of the best. Anchor Porter is pretty good as well (although Porters aren't my favorite).

Color not so important, but more body and less bitter is better in the cold weather.

DucDucGoos,

If you like dark stouts and porters might I suggest Brooklyn Brewery Black Ops and Great Divide Oak Aged Yeti Imperial Stout.
2 of my winter favs.

Great Divide Brewing makes a "Hibernation Ale" that is the epitome of the winter beer style. If you like dark caramelly brews this one is for you!

+1 on the Yeti...

Brooklyn's special limited release Double Chocolate Stout is a good one also....

@SpikeC, I am going to have to look for the Hibernation ale....

I had an interesting one yesterday that I dug out of my cellar stash. It was a collaboration between Deschutes Brewery and Hair of the Dog brewery, called Collage. No. 1 in the Conflux Series. The label says "best after 4/30/13". Aged in distilled spirit and wine oak barrels.
Tastes a lot like Fred from the Wood, winey, caramel notes and that woody hit.
 Pretty nice!
