I recently purchased my second Ducati – a 2008 HM1100 (see http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=154431&id=608540964&l=f63e630439). Unfortunately, the bike came without:

  • The small plate attached to the original keys that reports their identification number.
  • The CODE CARD supplied with the keys reports an electronic code.

Does anyone know what would be involved in getting replacements to those?

Thanks, Pedro

I thought they discontinued the 3 key system in 07. That's why the code card is necessary.

The key card is only used in the case that you lose your keys. The dealer can use it to rape you for a new key $$$

Either way you can get your key cloned (from red or black) at most locksmiths. Ebay has keys for $10-60 depending on whether you want original, Hong Kong or China...

$56.99...eBay item # 200432146946
$14.99...eBay item # 160387477960
$9.99...eBay item # 280347937058 (no transponder, just a replacement for broken key)

Thanks for the advice.

In 2008, the HM came with only two black keys. I see that I can get a blank key with transponder and I imagine that a locksmith can cut it as per the other. But,

  • Don't I need to program the transponder so the CPU will recognize it as legit?
  • Dont I need the electronic code in case that the Immobilizer gets accidentally blocked?

Thanks

If the immobilizer get initiated for some reason you need the Code CARD to unlock.  You enter this code using the throttle.
My previous owner lost it so i did a bunch of research and found without it you are basically SOL.  You can get the ECU reprogrammed, or a new ECU that can get you around this.  Subsequently, the PO found the code card so i quit there.  TONS in the archives about this.

Good luck

It's my belief that the code card has the RFID of the red key on it. I have yet to personally see one start an immobilized bike.

For anyone that doesn't have a red key or code card, just go buy a "blank" key off eBay and get the one or two locksmiths in your closest major city who actually can "clone" to clone it and then lock it away in your safe place. So that it can get lost... Smiley
