WANT TO MAKE MY 750 FASTER

Sorry I am a little bit of a newbie

However, I managed to get ahold of a 98 M750 with only 7000 original miles.  Clean, clean, clean bike, basically just sat in the dudes garage because his son wasn't interested in an Italian bike.

The only mods I am aware of, at a glance----

dual Ferraci pipes, the bars have been raised about an inch, and a TPO crankcase breather. 

I'm kinda like Ricky Bobby though, ya know, "I WANNA GO FAST", and this is my first Duc. Even with the pipes its not loud enough or fast enough for my liking, so lets hear it, any ideas on mods that will make a noticeable difference in power?

On a little bit of a budget, working through nursing school, so I'll just also say, the cheapest parts that will make the biggest difference in power and torque.  SO WHAT I'M LOOKING FOR IS THE MOST BANG FOR THE BUCK, obviously.  Who isn't right?!?

And also, does anyone make just a basic high performance package with a good combination of parts to really beef everything up that has already been proven as a good combination?  Pistons, cams, etc?

Any help would be appreciated guys

Quickest and easiest thing would be to sell the 750 and buy a 996.  However I doubt you want to do that.  Your bike is great for twisties and spirited commutes but not so much for top speed over 115 ish or to go super fast type of bike.  However there's all kinds of options to get the most out the motor currently in the bike.  My opinion for the biggest bang for the buck mods: make it louder by pulling apart the cans and remove any baffles (search here on the board for some how to's).  Chris at cacycleworks sells jet kits for the carbs, buy that.  You should also buy a k&n drop in filter or switch to pod filters. There are all kinds of other things to eliminate weight ( lighter battery, etc).  More expensive bang for the buck mods: You can buy wheels that are lighter.  A motor from a 900 can be dropped in plus mods listed above.  There's all kinds of options and the guys here are great for advise.  Good luck and congrats on the new bike.

the 750 engine is a bit of a dog.  this is what i did to mine - http://www.bikeboy.org/brads750m.html

you'd buy a s/h 900 motor cheaper tho.  the 900 carby motor has the advantage of the 6 speed with the wider ratio spread, it really makes a difference if you commute in heavy traffic and ride on highways, etc.  the gearbox is the one thing that annoys me about mine.  and the clutch which has just started slipping.  900 dry clutch is much more durable.

I tried this same approach with the wife's 750 and my S2R 800.....save up, sell and upgrade.  Nothing wrong with either bike but having my S4R I'm always going WAAHOOOO.  However, I have seen some people on similar bikes go balls to the walls 

On a serious note I've heard HC pistons would help a bit but I'm no techie like most of these guys. Someone will chime in shortly

 What i did to mine, front to back:

Factory Pro jet kit
11:1 FBF pistons
Nichols flywheel
DYNA coils w NGK wires
Ceramic coated pipes
Chopped exhaust cans in half

 I couldn't tell you whitch gave the biggest bang for the buck. They were all done at the same time.
I can say that it all added up to a totally different monster.

Cheapest "mod" to make the bike go faster:

Learn to ride.  Fast going straight isn't fast. To quote one of my favorite authors:

Wel, as no one's really mentioned it - you could change out the sprockets. If you pick up a couple teeth in back, you'll be able access more of the engines 'grunt'. THough this won't make the bike faster, you'll actually loose some off the top speed - it will accelerate faster from a stop and in rolling situations. In this case you should probably replace the whole set, both sprockets and chain which should run a bit less than $200. Way cheaper than pistons...

a dog with short gearing is still a dog.  i've ridden std gearing late model 750 that go well for what they are, and they're geared quite tall.  much taller than mine.  they just won't wheelie.

jockey - ignore the usual "you need to learn how to ride" comment on the other post.  some guys just can't help telling others that complaining their bike is slow simply means they can't ride.  i'm an engine guy myself, and just love playing with things to make them go better.  it's kind of addictive.  and i did a 750 project because it seemed to me that it was a pretty easy target, sort of like a harley.  and i had access to enough bits to do it fairly cheaply.  mine goes very, very well for a 750, and is a lovely engine to use. 

altho i've only ever ridden it around town.  last ride for pleasure (in the hills) i had was in 2003, when it was still a 600.  i did levels 1 to 3 of the california superbike school in the late 90's and loved it and rode much faster, but i have ridden so little in the last 10 years that i'm so bad now i'd need to start again.  so i'm down to straight line acceleration only these days for fun, and i can tell you that all the riding lessons in the world won't help the fact that the 750 is slow in a straight line.

given you're in the usa and engiens are cheap. i still say just fit a 900 motor.

i appreciate the advice brad, and yes in a straight line its going to be only that.....slow.   

however, maybe i didn't do a good job of explaining what my intentions are

i realize a 750 is just a newbie type of ride, granted its only slightly faster that the 600 and drastically slower than an s2r.  But this bike was in such good condition i decided it would be a good investment, a fun project to toy around with, i realize no amt of money or modification will put it on the same level of a 998, or any 4 valve, and thats NOT what i am trying to do, im only 23 years old, and haven't ever owned a ducati.  i know i can put some money into this ride and make it "faster".......but it will never be "fast".  BUT its a clean looking, fun bike to ride and toy around with, and with the right mods im looking to just beef it up a little bit and have some fun.  make it sound better and run a little better

Get a stage 1 tune ....airbox mod,K&N filter, open ,termis and a Dyno jet kit and Dyno setup ,the bike can easily pull 125mph with these mods and with well set up valve shims with Zero closers will run very close to a 900 in terms of acceleration .I know because i have one and also had a 900.

i also +1 the nichols flywheel... in a 900 motor. Or a 1000. or an 1100. or heck, an 800.
