So I had my first ever visit after 3 weeks of suffering.  It helped but it seems back is still bent and I am walking like a hunchback.

A few people warned me about get neck adjusted as it seems it has caused stroke or something extreme on some people.

What is your personal experience with Chiropractor adjustment on your back and neck?

Thanks for feed back.

It works for me...it isn't magic though.
You'll most likely need multiple visits

+1

You'll also probably feel better the day after the visit, and the day after that, etc.

I got another visit Thursday and probably more.  Hope it will not have side effects.

Doc informed me that the heating pad I was applying is not recommended for inflammation.  Rather ice is the best thing to use.  Wish I had known that earlier.

I broke the living sh@t out of 4 neck vertebrae from a freaking wild turkey attack while riding my bike in May 2007. They are all fused with cadaver bone and Ti hardware. The two surgeries destroyed my upper back and the nerve damage is impressive. My right hand and arm tingle like they're "asleep" constantly, so does my upper back. And the upper back pain is through the roof. OK, enough about that... it's been hashed out in other threads. Find a really good, experienced message therapist. After over a year+ of looking I finely found one that had a ton of experience working with post surgery and post accident trauma. She's awesome! I have seen her regularly since Dec. 2008 and the gal has changed my life. What's even better is that she charges me for one hour but has at times spent two full hours on me when I have really been bad off and she didn't have a client scheduled right after me. And no... she has never charged me a penny for the extra time. I'm thinking angel here...

Check it out. A Chiro + Massage Therapist could do you wonders. [thumbsup]

PS  I lived on a heating pad for 18 months straight. :P Some docs and therapists say rotate the heating pad with ice packs. I tried it but stuck with the heating pad. Good luck. I'm just lucky to be alive and not paralyzed from the neck down so I will just deal with it and keep riding!!

Chiro=manipulation, PT=strengthening, Massage therapist=deep tissue massage, Tens unit=electro-stim, alternate heating pad & icepack, yoga a few x's/wk and/or stretching daily really helps!

I had MUA (manipulation under anestesia) performed by my Chiropractor as well. Did wonders!!

Plus, eliminate all stress from your life and you're good to go!!    ;)

I've had nothing but good experiences from the first day. I get an adjustment every month. It's really important to keep going regularly or else you may as well not do it at all.

That's the problem.

It is an addiction of bullshit.

Finding out the real problem of the pain is the issue.

I'd go to an orthopedic doctor to find out your issue.

Of course, once again, I am sure I will get bashed for my comment, which is fine. I dont care.

I had my neck adjusted by my PT before I even went to a Chiropractor.  He adjusted it one time immediately following my car crash.  It took care of the head & neckaches I was having and I have never felt the need to do it again.

Next, I went to the Chiro for a couple months for adjustments and deep tissue massage before I finally had the MUA done.  Following the MUA, I had several more visits (a few weeks worth) of Chiro adjustments and deep tissue massages.

It's been 4 years now and I haven't even thought about going back to a Chiro or getting a deep tissue massage.

They did wonders for me!  [thumbsup]

Haven't had a lot of success with chiropractors myself, and some of my friends swear by them, so good luck to them, however they just seem to have to keep going back. (pun intended)
However, orthopedic doctors ( or osteopaths as they are known here) are the real deal.

Quote from: brimo on February 02, 2010, 07:40:19 PMorthopedic doctors (or osteopaths as they are known here) are the real deal.

What we call "orthopedic doctors" you call "orthopaedic doctors." They're surgeons primarily interested in the musculoskeletal system.

Osteopaths as you have in Australia don't really exist here under any name.

We have practitioners called osteopaths in the US, too, but here they've gone through full medical training, have full medical licensure, and practice every medical and surgical specialty. Some orthopedists are osteopaths and vice-versa. One might think of US-style osteopaths as chiropractors with actual medical training or physicians with chiropractic training. However, most do no "osteopathic manipulations" at all. My internist (who's the chief of the medical staff at my hospital) is an osteopath and when I had back pain he prescribed cyclobenzaprine and sent me to physical therapy (where they did stuff that actually helped, unlike the medication). I couldn't even talk him into trying a manipulation.

What you call osteopaths in Australia (and the UK and a few other places) would be sort of fancy chiropractors here. The biggest difference seems to be that US chiropractors tend to be big on X-rays and tests while UK-style osteopaths tend to avoid them.
