Red with Black frame S2R 1000 ?
«

This is the 2007 S2R 1000 I plan on purchasing. I'm curious whether they came in the colour red with a black frame and wheels or has the owner replaced or painted the tank and rear cowling. I know the front fender has been replace with a C/F one, and the rear seat cowling has been changed to have 2 white stripes on it instead of one.
Here's a picture of the bike:

Bars and forks look to have been changed...

Forgot to mention the bar was an after market one and the headlight bracket was C/F.

As far as I know the red bikes all had red frames. The early red S2R's all had white wheels while the later ones came with black wheels. The only red tank black frame S*R was the final edition S4R.

2007 S2R Red would be Red/Red with black wheels. Judging by the parts that got swapped, I am starting to wonder if the bike hasn't seen some repairs.
Can't tell from the picture, but the stock stripe on a red tank would be white, offset to the right of center when sitting on the bike and consist of 3 lines a thick one with 2 narrow ones on either side.
More pictures would help.

That's the only picture I got, its off the site where I found the add. I'm beginning to think the same thing about it having some repair work done, since I have been comparing that pic to other 07 S2R's pics.
Thanks for pointing these things out, I'm new in the Ducati world.
When I talk to the owner I will ask him.

The forks are off a S4R (desmoquatro)(996). Showa adjustable with Tin coated lowers.
Not sure, but I think the calipers were gold - on "your" bike they are black. One of the previous owners has upgraded the forks, but not the brakes. Why another set of the same calipers unless the old ones were damaged?
I'd guess the tank/cowl has been painted/changed. Only bike with red tank and black logo was the US-only black striped S4R, right? It could also be a painted frame, but few people do that unless it was while repairing?
There are a few unanswered questions about this bike.

Yeah I'd check on it having been wrecked. A lot of these bikes see significant mods, but these are odd "mods" to do for the sake of doing them.
Actually the only thing that really puzzles me are the forks. People paint stuff, the after market bars are higher than stock. So they could have been done for comfort. It is interesting that they would do as much modding and leave the stock clutch cover on(was it put back on after an aftermarket one was damaged?)
The forks though, I don't know enough about those forks to figure if they offer a performance advantage.

The coating is there to reduce the stiction. It doesn't sound like a sensible mod to take off the stock forks, then buy the same forks (apart from the coating) - again, unless the stock forks were damaged.
Our damage/repair theory need not mean this is a less valuable bike, but......

Thanks everybody for your opinions. I'm going to be test riding it on Tuesday. I'll be making sure I ask the owner alot of questions about these mods.
One other thing is, on the side of the bike that you can't see, it has a Ohlin's steering damper.

The Öhlins side mounted dampers are often facing forward, called purse snatchers. I can't see the forward pointing rod on "your" bike, so it might be facing backwards - which is fine unless your knee gets in it's way. Nice safety feature
Good luck - keep us posted.

When I looked at the bike, I'm sure the rod was out fully toward the front of the bike when the handlebars were straight. It was mounted on the left of the bike (when your sitting on it)
Am I making any sense?
This is so confusing. I was hoping this would be the bike I was going to get. Maybe I should pass on this one and keep looking.

Absolutely no reason to write it off, especially before you have looked at it. Just reason to procede with caution. Ask those questions see what kind of answers you get, steering damper=good on these bikes. Nice little after market bit.
Look the bike over check the top, and ends of the brake handles, forks, and reseviours. These are spots that often aren't replaced after a wreck if the damage is light. If they look filed off then it's a good indicator it slid at least a bit, watch out that they haven't been touched up.

Some dealerships have been known to swap bodywork around to suit customers before they were sold...
I have personally worked on a silver/black S2R800 that was just such a bike...
