Could you ever sell your monster?

I looked up the value of my bike in the latest issue of MCN and it is down to about $2500.  I've got about $10 k in engine mods., rebuilds, and farkles.  So, I just couldn't take that kind of loss.  Looks like it will stay in the family.

I traded a perfectly good S4R to get an S4RS and took a beating, but because I had to have that deep sump engine, etc. etc.

No, I'll not do that again. And besides it's got over 35,000 mi. on it now and I'd REALLY take a beating on this one.

had mine listed a few months back and it almost sold, and it was really, really painful watching it go down the street with someone else on it (test ride).

def. would be a loss ($$$) with all the work put into it, but money's more important right now, so...

It would definitely be a loss. I've spent a lot of time and effort to make it my own and it will probably evolve into my track pregnant dog instead. I'm sure that if a financial situation came up that required immediate selling, then it would need to go. But as long as financially I'm stable, then I'm keeping it.

What I meant to say is if I get fired and my finances goes to the shitter. I'll be selling one of the cars and the bike along with every that's not strapped down. I've found myself rarely riding on the street, boring Florida roads don't attract my interest, so it would be difficult to convince myself that keeping the bike would be worthwhile if I couldn't take it to the track. But, as long as I'm financially stable, then I'm keeping the old girl around.

If I couldn't eat, then I'd have a different outlook as well duccarlos.  I was just thinking of how much $ I have into the bike....and I'm not done w/it yet is all.

I could use 1/10th of that $ right now!

I think all of us could do with 1/10th of what we've put into out bikes. In your case, 1/10th is a lot, but we don't do this purely for financial gain. There's a lot to be said about the joy our bikes give us when we get it just right.

I bought the S4Rs as a sporty bike capable of two-up trips when required - which it is, now it has a custom seat and stiffer rear spring. Multistrada 1100 would have been much more sensible, but my passenger loved the top-end zip of the Testa engine and the classic Monster styling. (Have to admit, I didn't need all that much persuasion.)

Part of the thinking tho was that the Desmodue Multi would be a hard sell when they inevitably built a Testastretta Multi, which we would want. Whereas there would be plenty of takers for the maximum Monster.

It's funny how when you try and see a safe path into the future, you're always looking in the wrong direction. The basic thinking was right. Problem is, we can't seriously consider selling the S4Rs for the new Multi 1200. 

And even when I do raise the possibility of a trade, I meet stern resistance from my passenger. She's comfy enough, thank you. She enjoys packing extra-lite. Stopping every 150km for fuel isn't such an issue ... etc.

So it looks like we'll be following others on this board down the well worn path of dropping so much cash on custom bits for our Monster that we couldn't afford to get rid of her even if we wanted to.

Yep, sold my '94 back in the spring of '08 and haven't had another since.

I miss her from time to time, but not enough to buy another. Unless the right S4Rs came along....
