removing 696 forks, stand?
«

So i may powdercoat both my stock triple to a matching black. This obviously requires removing the forks.
Is this a huge pain? how do I prop the bike up (696)? i don't have any stands as of now.
thanks guys
p.s. if i go through with this, while its torn apart, what else should i do.

not a huge pain. even with mine all jacked up, it wasn't a big deal (well minus the cracked top triple, but that's another story)
hmmm as far as things to do... how about a pic of where you are with the mods now.

had the bike on a rear stand. hung the front of the frame from the rafter in the garage with straps.

I've also known people to use an 8ft A-Frame type step ladder. Especially if you have a type-II rated at 250lbs. Just string a ratchet strap from either side, down thru the frame, by the head tube. Having the bike on a rear stand would probably be wise too.

T-rex stands are good quality at a great price. im sure youve red threads about them.
$240 got me a rear stand front stand with tripple adapter.
240 for me is cheap insurance against a dented tank or shift/brake lever bending or breaking.
ive done the hanging bike from I-beam rafter thing, and as secure as you feel it is
when you goto bed all you will dream is a nightmare of structural failure and everything
falling on top of your bike and a insurance claim adjuster shaking his head with the
"you are so f*cked" look on his face.
what ? im the only one who has dreamt that ??

The issue I ran into with a normal bottom of the fork stand on the 696 like you have pictured. The stand covers the pinch bolts on the front axle. Mine also covers the axle nut. I put the bike on the rear stand and lifted the front up on the front stand and then used the garage rafters to take the wheel off. I put the bike back onto the front stand while sleeping so that I wouldn't worry about it all night.
