From the pictures I saw of the DP windscreen for the 696 I thought it was a little bigger.  Oh, well, I went ahead and tried to mount it.  The windscreen attaches to the bike with two bolts that screw into brass inserts which are in plastic fittings on the back of the instrument assembly.  The windscreen comes with the two bolts and two flimsy plastic spacers (actually tubes).  When I started screwing in the bolts, the one on the left felt funny.  Not cross threaded funny, just odd.  Turns out the brass insert came free from the plastic fitting.  [Hate it when that happens.]  The bolt on the right went in and is fine.

So now I have this brass insert for which I have no clue how to get back into the plastic fitting.  It will not simply push in flush; the insert has coarse threading on the outside and there is residual glue on it and in the fitting.  It appears to me that the insert is shoved with force into the fitting before the instrument gauge is assembled.

Anybody got an idea how to get the brass insert reinstalled into the plastic fitting?

I bought the bike used, so that isn't an option.  Nice idea!  Cool

Now I get your point.  I appear to be a little slow today.   Roll Eyes

I bought the windscreen new, but it is not defective.  The plastic fitting with the brass insert which fell out is part of the bike.  I need to check the paperwork trail to determine if it is still under warranty.
