......one of the reasons I'm still running with the servo operating. That, plus the ability to coast through town quietly (I'm running the Termi's without the DB killers). I'm still undecided about removing it. Did deactivating it make the bike quite a lot louder at idle?
Alright. Here's my understanding of how this flapper works: If you're running Termi slip-ons with DP ECU then your flapper valve contributes absolutely NOTHING to the power output (despite what some dealers are telling shoppers, its not there to "improve mid-range response") nor does it in anyway contribute to the sound output
once mobile. Its my belief - and I'm happy to be corrected here - that the flapper valve operates ONLY in the following circumstances: 1) It chirps closed/open when they key is first turned, merely to ensure that it remains functional - i.e. doesnt seize from lack of use. 2) At 3000rpm and in NEUTRAL ONLY (and here's the only time it functions to quieten things a little) the servo engages the flapper. I'm told that this is coz thats how static noise testing is conducted (presumably in some European jurisdictions) - 3000rpm in neutral. So its there just to "cheat" the regulator's noise test

. So since it does nothing of any use when you're actually riding the bike, why keep carrying its ugliness everywhere? I dont know if any of the above is applicable to bikes running the stock ECU.
I'm running Termi slip-ons without the Db killers too - for fun I manually operated the flapper and using only my ears, since thats the only sound detection equipment I have access to, I could hear no difference in noise output with it wide open or held flapped closed.
if the exhaust diamaters b/w 696 and 1100 are the same...why not just order an oem midpipe from a 696 or look for one on ebay? ive seen a few pass by there in recent months. might be cheaper than going the hpe route.
the spark piece does look the nicest though...
Yup. If 696 and 1100
are interchangeable, then that could offer an opportunity. I have my friendly research team checking on this for me in the near future, so thanks to them for their efforts (you know who you are

stop posting that damn purple bike. hpe makes nice stuff, but that purple kills me.
Complain to HPE
