I'd take the Monster.  They Hyper is cool but just not the right bike for me.  I sit way too high to feel comfortable.

Free, and only a choice between the two, I'd take the HM796. That may change if a used, previous generation monster were thrown in as an option.

Monster.  The Hyper 796 is cool and has a much better seat than most motards but has a small tank and probably ain't great on long freeway jaunts.  The Monster is a little more versatile.  But if I was going to get a second bike....

Well I've got a Monster that I don't plan to replace until it stops going. So hyper for me. Also the seat to tank junction on a 696 is, ahem, disagreeable to my build.

Gross. Neither are good for freeway jaunts.

Already got a Monster, think I would go for the Hyper kind of like the idea of the whole urban/city attack thing. Was torn between a Hyper and a Monster when I bought mine so they still spark my curiosity. Though I have no idea what I would use it for to much for the city, to upright for the mountains.  Undecided

hyper.

The 696 smashes my nuts just sitting on it.  Can only imagine what would happen if i really needed my brakes.

Been on a superbike before? The 696 is tame and gentle on the potatoes in comparison.

Monster, purely for range.

Hyper if I didn't care about going far, but want to have a helluva lot of fun doing it.

Where I live the gas stations are 20+ miles apart... the short range of a Hyper means I'd get a lot of walking exercise.  Work is a nearly 50-mile round trip, and there are no gas stops between Stevenson, WA and Bingen, WA.

If CA-cycleworks makes an extended tank for the HM that brings the range up to 300 miles, then HM, hands down.  Let the hooliganry commence!  Evil
