Today a stumbled upon this yellow 916, bit battered and beaten
Asked the them to get back to me with an acceptable price. Made a bid to one a few weeks ago but that one fell through.

Would love me an old 916 for a piece of living room art and the very occasional ride.....

I'd love to have one of these as a project bike, bring it back to life and get it looking great again.

Is that an SP or SPS plaque on the upper triple clamp?
I don't remember, but I think the only yellow 916 bikes came out in '98....maybe '97. I don't recall any yellow '95 or '96 models.
The bike was probably wrecked and all the bodywork pulled off and simply never replaced (check the frame, swingarm, and headlight bucket area for crash damage). A tank can be found for $200-$350 and a fuel pump assembly for $50-$100. You can get a set of that Hong Kong boywork for $500. That bike in pristine condition would only bring between $5k and $6.5 (unless it is an SP or SPS). Unless there is more wrong with it, I wouldn't go more than $2500 for it in its current condition because you'll have $3500-$4000 in it before you get it complete. Then, there is the risk of bad chrome on the rockers (mainly post '95 models), belts, oil and filter, etc.....You could easily have well over $5000 in that thing before you ever really get to ride it.
Personally, almost anything under $3000 would be tempting because I can do all the work myself and am familiar with the Desmoquattro SBK models. I was just working on rebuilding my 748 earlier today. The 916 family of superbikes are a LOT of fun.

for some reason, i love the picture.
it gives a 916 the kind of evil soul that British bike normally has.

I'm lining myself up to make a run at a derelict 916 myself.
This one needs a LOT of work, almost too much... But, she's special.

The plaques on the numbered bikes are centered and much smaller.. my guess is thats where the p.o put a lap timer or clock/gps thingy.
I dont believe the SP/SPS's came in yellow... but i could be wrong
