since i've been looking around for some sets. i've noticed there's only maybe a handful of companies that still make them for the older monsters.

It's seems like everybody is copying the DP/S & P rearsets and came across these on ebay. they almost seem to good to be true.

So I took the plunge and made an offer for them.  Here's my story, to share my experience and hoping to have some of yours:

Made an offer for them and was accepted by the seller. Paid by Paypal (which is a mode of acceptable payment advertised on their site). Guess what? They returned my payment and asked that I pay by bank transfer.  No reason given.  My guess is that Paypal takes a cut from the money received and the seller is trying to avoid that.  To make it worse, I will have to spend about 30 euros to my bank to send the payment to them by bank transfer, and I reckon that the seller's bank will take a cut too.  That'll be a lose-lose situation.

So guys, what are my options?

(1) Complain to Paypal or eBay that I made payment and did not get the goods?  (Of course telling them about the unilateral refund by the seller)

(2) Stand my ground and write to the seller and tell him to honour his ad and take Paypal?

(3) Don't go through with the deal and risk punishment by eBay?

Any idea what will eBay's stand be on this?  I've never experienced this before in my years on eBay.   I have sent a message to the seller asking him to reconsider a re-payment by Paypal.  Fingers crossed.

Here's the description of the item from the site:
NEW
MADE IN ITALY
IN ERGAL
WORKED FROM the FULL LOAD
ANODIZED BLACK OR SILVER
ADJUSTABLE COMPLETELY
COMPLETE OF LEVER BRAKE AND LEVER CHANGE

PAYMENT WITH PAY PAL OR DIRECT BANK TRANSFER

isn't the bank transfer a 'wire?'  same as cash basically, guaranteed funds.  Might be legit, but that's pretty sketchy if you ask me.

I'd go with option 2 if it was me.

yeah i have been looking at podium racing's ti stuff as well. good to know. but they MAKE ti bolts there... somehow that doesn't sound right...

TAft... do you make your own bolts or do you repackage a wholesalers' into kits?
I mean what kind of setup would a company need to make their own bolts?

Sorry for the thread jack...

I highly, highly doubt they make their own bolts. It is quite involved to make titanium hardware. It does require a hot heading process which the machines are extremely expensive. One of my suppliers that I am very close with was looking at acquiring a hot heading machine....Like $500 K and that is not including the tooling and dies.

Despite the fact they may or may not manufacture their own rear sets does not determine the quality of the product, even if they are subbing the machining out it looks like a decent product.  I have seen stuff made in China that is pretty nice stuff, it all depends on how the quality control is and if they are using the proper material.  Probably a good number of the parts you see from named manufactures are made in China.

You have the upper hand here.  Their listing specifically states "PAYMENT WITH PAY PAL OR DIRECT BANK TRANSFER".  I would file a dispute with Ebay/Paypal.  I assume you also paid with a credit card?  Then also file a dispute with your credit card company.  File both of those disputes NOW (for non delivery of goods), do not wait for the seller, and inform the seller that you've done so.  I dont see how the seller is going to get out of this, since the listing clearly says PAYMENT WITH PAY PAL..."  The best I would hope for is you get a refund.  If for some reason you get a partial refund from Paypal, file another dispute with your credit card for the remainder.

If the seller is just balking out of the Paypal fees (about 3%, someone remind me...), and you really want the item, consider paying it! At 3% that's only $11, right?

Good luck!

Thanks ... yes, I am on the moral high ground. I just do not understand why the seller refunded me and created this problem.  No response from them to my email to them asking them to accept a re-payment.

i'm confused. is this S&P that refused payment or another company?

Hiya,

Just thought I post an update and closure on the issue of my purchase.  The seller and I communicated and we agreed on the PayPal route.  He was decent about it and took care to ensure that I get the colour that I want.  Reckon that if the goods are as described he will still earn a positive feedback.  Will post pics when I get them.

The seller is not S&P, I think, and although the pegs sold are not described as S&P they certainly look like them.  Having said that, one of the DMF guys made me an offer for his manufactured pegs which are cheaper and I would have taken his offer but for the fact that I have to honour my end of the eBay purchase too.

Düb Lüv, I reckon that it is not proper for me to post the final price openly since these guys are running a business,  so I will respond to you by PM.

Cheers

i hate to mention this, but there was a set of DP/S&P rear sets that sold a couple days ago for $165.

Really? ... ah well, I was looking out for a couple of months and there was nothing. What to do? sigh.

Let' see what the postman brings. :)

Düb Lüv

i know i was kinda pissed too because  it did a "buy it now" on some sets a couple days before they were listed. i'm still glad i bought that ones i did. they have a rizoma style adjustment grid. major adjustability and were only $125 shipped.
