Speedo Healer on M1100?

Has anyone fitted a Speedo Healer on their M1100 or M696?  I know I can just add 7 to 10 percent to what the speedo indicates (haven't checked it with GPS yet but I know they are off, it even says so in the owner's manual) but it just pi55es me off that I have to.  I don't understand why they have to be so optimistic with the speedo.  My '06 Miata is spot on; my '05 Dodge Ram 4X4 is spot on; my '06 Harley Roadking is spot on (all according to GPS); my '09 Kawasaki Versys is now spot on (after changing the countershaft sprocket, that's where the speedo pick up is, it corrected the speedo error).  Even my '94 and '95 DR350s are only about 2 percent optimistic, that's much better than the M1100.

I was just wondering how hard it will be to hide the speedo healer on the M1100.

i always thought they did it for a very simple but not obvious reason.

On many bikes,when your going 80, you feel like your going 60. so when you feel like your going 80, your actally going 90. so you dont go nuts and get speeding tickets its about 10-15% off sometimes.

I think I understand what you are trying to say, but your math/logic fails me...

Before buying the speedo healer you should check the accuracy of the odometer.  If your speedometer reads 10% high and your odometer is spot on when you correct the speedometer reading your odometer will read 10% low.

95% of European motor vehicule manufacturers calibrate the speedo like that and the odometer is correct.

They will tell you that it's to account for tire circumference growth at motorway speeds. While was true in the past, speedometers now have an algorithm that accounts for tire deformation. That's why they always reset the tire pressure when you go to the dealership.

It's an unwritten common practice to make raise the displayed speed on the odometer to avoid lawsuits if a driver gets caught speeding and claims that they were following the limit on the dashboard.

Japanese cars are entirely different. You'll find that almost all of them have a 99.9% accurate speedometer. In Japan, the culture has changed a lot since the 70s and the majority of people don't exceed speed limits. The only ones that we here about are the crazy ones with they 11tybillion HP Skyliners but, while they are few and far between in Japan, they too follow speed limits during 80% of their driving.

Yes I know that will be the case but at 10000 actual it will read 9000 miles (100 will read 90, 1000 will read 900, and so on).  I can live with that; and yea' I can live with the speedo error also; it just bugs me for some reason.

But no one has tried or knows someone that has tied the Healer?

Yea' I know... but for some reason, I seem to get a lot of attention from the men with the red & blue lights on their cars.  A speedo comes in kinda handy trying to avoid getting another lecture (or worse).

No.  Its certainly not probably wrong.  Its definitely wrong.  It reads 8% to 10% lower [edit] higher [end edit] than actual.  I'm surprised that you're surprised.

I am constantly surprised! Hell, I honestly don't know how I would have known. At 75 MPH on the speedo (apparently 82 actual) I'm not flying by everyone. I guess here in Northern California people drive fast. In Hawaii, I mostly rode on days and at times where there were few other cars around.

I sure as hell can't feel the difference between 80 & 88 mph.

Highly recommended! I put one on my M1100S with the DP ECU, so not only was I off by 10-percent but I was running KPH. The Speedo Healer unit compensated for both, and according to all the radar signs around here I am now dead-on.

Just for reference, the wiring is the same as the Aprilia colors. The documentation that I had did not have (yet) the Ducati wiring colors.

I of course meant to say that the speedo reads higher than actual.....  so everybody'd be passing you rather than the other way around.  Sorry for adding to the confusion.
