Painting time

Hey guys;
Now that my Monster is back on the road, Id love to clean up the damage done to the paint by the acid. Has anyone here had much experience with painting? Anything to watch out for, brands to avoid, etc?
Also, with colour matching, am I best getting someone good to do it? The bike is about 10 years old, but I want the black to blend.. Is this overly difficult?

Well I have to paint about a quarter of the frame on the left, was going to do it with a spray since I thought it would be easier. I am contemplating spraying the whole frame red or maybe even yellow (I have a black monster), but I think it will be a bit too much work, since it looks like Id have to drop the engine.
But before that, I have to paint the left half of the actual engine casing, since the acid has just eaten it all away.
And, a much bigger job, the fuel tank needs some touch up work. Nothing big, a few centimetre nicks, but no idea how Im going to go about that.

Would anyone know where I can get the colour codes? Are they international?

I sprayed my vtr1000 a metallic silver base with red Kandy over the top. Kandy are a pain, I was lucky to have a mate who was a spray painter.

Assuming you are doing it in the garage like me, do it in warm weather! I had a cool day and has some blooming issues but a hairdrier savedthe day

Prep it well and it will look good. If the prep is done poorly the paint will show all imperfections.

Painting the frame would be a pain as you would need to drop the engine to do a good job. Although you could cover up the block and do it if you had to. Plenty of guys have done that, looked ok in pics but not sure in real life.

I Had my D16 painted by Raceface special paint finishes.Those that have seen it can confirm the quality and finish is second to none.He is in SA and freight was less than $150

Nice timing for this topic, I am going to paint the plastics on my MV Agusta (they are all in undercoat and filler now so it will have to look better)  I am not planning on riding it on the road so I will not be too worried about the finish. I have ordered the paint, I have picked up a compressor and paint gun so just a few more hours of prep and light rub and here we go!!
Got its debut ride booked for 26th April so want to have it ready for then.
