So, it looks like i have a new bike sorted.....

All avenues on my stolen bike have been exhausted, faxing off the 'total loss' agreement to QBE today.
So, i've come to a deal with the owner of this S4RS, and as such i should have it by mid-week next week....
Took it for a spin on wednesday, loved it.
Question about security though: I've priced a scorpio system(I900) which seems pretty good. There is a new one coming out in a few months in Oz(Out in US on March 15th) called the I1100. It will be issued by scorpio but it's also an 'rlink' system. In short, it's a GPS tracker with the normal Scorpio alarm functions. Includes an iphone app which can be used as a low-jack button or will show your bikes current speed and location on a map. Can be utilised for fun as it will record your entire ride. The I900 only has a range of about 900 metres. The I1100 has an unlimited range as it's satellite based....
What do you guys think? $500 for the scorpio or $850-$900 for the GPS system. Overkill?
Hugh
Oh, garage door is being replaced with a stronger one. Two more deadbolts are being added, and shackle points are being dynobolted into my garage floor

After what you've been through, I think $900 is cheap insurance for the Security/GPS system.
Is the scorpio system detectable on the bike?
Has it got Battery backup etc?
either way it sounds like a good purchase.

As in, can someone see it as the bike sits there? No. The sensor is normally placed under the seat. There are videos on youtube,
Scorpio alarm SR-I900
The reason i'm thinking of the GPS one, is that if i'm at work, the keyring won't go off due to the distance. The alarm will still sound, I just won't know about it.....

Before you and I know about the GPS feature on the Scorpio, the gangsters will.
So, their first move will be to remove the main unit.
I think the best would be a regular Scorpio plus a hidden GPS tracking device.
That'll cost more though.

True true, but i wouldn't expect the signal to last more than a couple of hours before it is dismantled..... But if it could give a rough estimate as to the location....
Anyone know of individual GPS trackers?....

I'd be spending my $$$ on the $500 model.
GPS is great but how seriously do you think you'd catch someone on the bike if they got away on it.
I may even look at one of those for myself.
Happy days that you have an new bike sorted, another S4Rs among us.

mate glad to hear you got a new baby sorted - but then sorry bout the total loss of your other baby!
to present a total different scenario I dont bother with alarms n gps - if the constables (replace the o with a u, and no not talking about the constabulary) want it they will take it irrespective - and that is irrespective of type of vehicle too (had friends have classic american vehicles stolen and never recovered). End of the day it is up to you and your personal security - how comfortable you are leaving your bike anywhere. I personally have my baby securely locked in my shed (read chained to a Pontiac block) and when I am out and about I am never too far away from it. May sound cop out but if you have it fully insured then that covers the property loss, but never the emotional attachment.
Happy riding on ur new ride and stay upright!
cheers

Hmm, interesting points.
About leaving it around though. I'm not so worried about parking it on the street, at a cafe or such, i'm more worried about keeping it in my very secure garage.....

Something to consider:
I've got one of these. Got it from MCAS for about $200. It came with all the masonary drill bits, tools etc.
It uses Dynabolts with an allen key head. Once installed you have to hammer in a ball bearing into each allen key head so that you cannot use an allen key to undo it. These dynabolts are recessed into the back plate (behind the black plastic dome fascia). The reason for the recess is that once you hammer in the ball bearing, you then hammer on a metal cap which covers the entire dynabolt head. Which leaves none of the dynabolt heads exposed. Its all hidden.
If you manage to get the cap off, you then have to try and get the bearings out of the allen key fitting.
I tie it down through the trellis insetad of through my wheels, my chain has a cloth sleeve (to avoid scratches). I figured if they want it - then they'll have to cut through the bike frame, which I hope is enough deterent.
It's not 100%, but that's why we have insurance.

Mate, exactly what i'm looking at for my garage floor. Was going to put them in next week.
Was planning on chaining the Duc, via the floor mount, to the triumph. I know that nothing is safe, but the fact that the guys who took the old Duc did it within a 20 minute time frame(leaving one of the MTB wheels as it was chained to the triumph) tells me that they really don't want to be there for too long.
I may drop in to the Wentworth Ave store tomorrow, while at work

I have just reasearched GPs for my company cars, this is a pretty inexpensive option, this mob -
http://www.tracking-tracing.com.au/
have a gps tracker, with Server based portal. Its about $500 for the unit and the you just need a Data SIM card about 20MB which will cost abot $10-30 depending on the carrier.
May seem expensive but will get you a discount on your insurance.
