The sun is shining... gonna be fabulous weather this weekend and I have all day Saturday from dawn to dusk to go riding  [moto].  I love the roads around South Gippy, but I'm becoming a bit of a specialist on that circuit..... Soooo.... any suggestions for a great ride out (within the time frame) some place else?  Anybody wanna show me around their own favourite roads...hmm  Grin??

Cheers  waytogo

If you have all day from dawn to dusk I am sure you can make it to Sydney in a Day!
Then we can see that bike in the metal and ride you part the way home Sunday.

Thanks for the invite Matty....  the Sunday bit doesnt quite fit within my time frame though.  I'd be up for a meeting half way...... if there was an interesting road to ride along the way, but the Hume is not my idea of fun and the Princes is not too exciting east of Sale either....

Perhaps we'll make a plan for later in the year.
There is always "the high country" to meet in.
But we might have to wait for Spring 2010.

Hmn I have to celebrate my (temporary) retirement on Friday night.  Great Ocean road not good on a Saturday but the roads coming off it are nice.  Like a loop from Lorne, Deans Marsh Road, Colac, Beech Forest, Skenes Creek.

Bit of a hike from your way but not so bad if you jump on the ferry instead of going thru Melb. Maybe?

I could meet you somewhere.

...so you'll only have a temporary hang-over then  Grin

Yeah GOR gonna busy with caravans and  Police on Saturday, but your inland circuit looks like it could be fun.... waytogo. Soooo.... lemme see now 2 hours from my place to the ferry.....  if I aim for the 9am boat (and mostly likely miss it but get the 10am one instead...) then that puts me on your side of the water around 9.45 or 10.45.... so where's a good place to meet?

Didn't know the ferry took that long!

If you want to stay off the GOR completely (until Lorne) you could head inland, skirt round the bottom ( Embarrassed) of Geelong and head out to Winchelsea (on the Princes Hwy  Shocked) and I could meet you there.  Then we could zip down Deans Marsh Road to Lorne and then follow the map.

I reckon I could get to Winchelsea somewhere between 10.00 and 10.30 depending on my head  drink

The ferry doesnt take that long, you're right.  I just rang em and they said its only a 40 minute trip  laughingdp.

Nah, I dont wanna avoid the GOR altogether - if I'm heading over to your side of the bay then it'd be a shame not to take a ride down the GOR, just that there'll be a greater proliferation of certain...um... weekend hazards to be accounted for thats all  Wink.

So I'm happy to meet wherever suits and assuming that I do manage to make the 9am ferry, then a 10.00 > 10.30 meeting your side looks do-able. Just name the location  waytogo.

Any others interested joining the ride?  Wheres the Long One lately?

Come on you Melbourne peeps.  Where the bloody hell are ya!  Roll Eyes

I been busy ...... Just saw the post now. I'd love to some along but I have my nieces 2nd birthday lunch tomorrow. She won't notice if I'm not there, but the in-laws do Sad My wife is so lucky to have me.

I was down that way in November, the road up from Skeenes Creek  to forrest was fun, I havn't done the bit to Beech Forrest though. Let me know what is like.

Have a nice ride.

Well done Dos, you're a saint  Wink

You and trinity missed a great ride today though, fine roads (even with the prolific tourists - as though I'm not also one of em), great company, cool bikes, good coffee and a seafaring life for me to boot waytogo.

What a terrific day.  Bit of a trek for both Unge and myself to get there but well worth it in the end.  (And my head was killing me after too much  Vino! that not even TWO coffees could fix!) Weather was perfect.  Roads great.  Traffic only a little problem on the short part of the GOR that we did.  Good time had by all.  (Me & Unge).  In the past I have ridden down Deans Marsh Road and up Skenes Creek Road but this time I reversed it and rode up Deans Marsh Road and down Skenes creek and I think I prefer it that way.  The views out over the southern ocean as you come down into Skenes creek are 'wow' factor as are the steep drop offs with no barriers or run off area!  Shocked  Sorry no where to pull over and take pics so you'll just have to ride it yourselves. Didn't end up going through Beech Forest because I'm getting conflicting reports about whether the eastern end has been sealed so more research needed.
Hope you got the boat you planned Unge and thanks for making the trek - now you will really have to replace that back tyre.  waytogo

The high country option sounds good  waytogo  (But why wait until Spring... plenty of nice weather coming up over the next couple of months.....)
