Tire Size

Tried looking for this in the forum, did a search but could not find so forgive me
if I've over looked. What I would like to know is, how many of you run a 190 size tire in the rear. I have an s2r800 with a 180 and am wanting to go to a 190. I realize that I'll create a lack of handling and response. Some thoughts!! Any and all as well as experiences would be appreciated.

I haven't heard of anyone running a 190 on a Monster.

My thoughts are to keep the 180.

Well Boba, the most knowledgeable folks on here advise against.
Why do you want a 190? You are already aware of the cons, so what's the pro?

190 is the tire size for a 6" wheel, profile would be wrong on your 5.5", and may even end up looking smaller than the 180

Would the 190 really make that much of a negative impact? If so, please elaborate.

By mounting a too wide a tire, it alters the tire profile from what the manufacturer intended. More often than not, this will have a negative impact on the handling of the bike. I could manifest as instability, a wobble or who knows what. Also, a larger tire is heavier. So now you've added additional rotating mass to your drive line... that is ALSO unsprung weight

Not only heavier and unsprung, but its adding the weight to the outside of the wheel - its effect will be more felt than if you were to attach the same additional weight to the wheels central hub.
The profile change can actually lead to a SMALLER contact patch at a lean, because some of the tire's tread will be bent back in towards the rim when it should straight or angled the other direction.
This would be obvious if you grabbed a 4.5" wheel and tried to fit it with a 180 or 190.
I never understand this, adding a bigger tire so people get the illusion that you go fast enough to need it? Silly (especially on an air-cooled Monster).

I am pretty certain it's been done, but if IIRC those who did changed to a 6 inch rim just like Jeff mentioned. Use the search at the top of the page and search for 6 inch rim.
